Wireless Fidelity? WTF!
It sort of make the hair stand on the back of my neck when people refer to Wi-Fi networking as "Wireless Fidelity" Well the name Wi-Fi is a trademarked name by The Wi-Fi Alliance.
Their 1999 trademark application does not mention the term "Wireless Fidelity" . I am no legal expert but they did not explicitly say that it stood for that on the original application. I am just point it out from a strict constructionist point of view and the acceptance of calling it "Wireless Fidelity" came later when it became more commonplace in the wild.
I am just glad they did not go with an eBlank name or a iSomething that were all the rage circa 1999. For the record I would just like to point out that it is not pronounced "WeeFee" but rather "Why Fie" while we are splitting hairs.
While we are on the subject I am sure that I am not the only one that thinks WiMAX brings back memories of Betamax and that Blu-Ray is a bad name for a consumer digital storage media verses HD-DVD. I have a gut feeling that Blu-Ray will bea out HD-DVD since both Sony and Apple are behind it but HD-DVD has a better consumer brand name name.
Also the code name "Nintendo Revolution" is much cooler than what ever they end up calling it. So Xbox 360 is like 120 times cooler than the Playstation 3 right? But that is my 2 Yen.

too late: the "wirtschaftsfoerderungsinstitut" (german translated roughly to "institute for business development") already has the name ;-)

Alright, maybe it is pronounced "Wee Fee" but there is no chance that I will ever say weefee. NO CHANCE.
