What This Comic Will Not Be
I spent about three hours tonight reviewing just about every damn web comic I knew of. Most of them were linked from the Wikipedia Comic List, VG Cats links page and my own Web Portal.
So what are some of the conclusions from my hours of research? Glad you asked. Now these are just things that I am going to do and if you read or do a comic that do these things it just not my bag. I am not saying that they are bad just not what I am going to do. That being said:
1. No Sprite Comics. I don't see a point to ripping off characters and graphics from Megaman and Sonic The Hedgehog games. I am visibly excluding comics that have an old school graphic style but have new art like Diesel Sweeties, 8-Bit Theater and Comet 7.
2. No anamorphic animal worlds where everyone is a upright walking animal person. That is a gateway comic to Furry comics.
3. No US Anime or Manga. I love Anime with great respect and I can carry on a conversation in Japanese. That being said with the exception of Ninja Highschool and Megatokyo I think the big eyes , happy cute girls with the pointy hair that call everyone Baka should be left to be drawn by those from the Land of the Rising Sun.
4. Continuity. I am not out to make a new graphic novel that is 900 pages long and becomes the new Dark Night Returns. That being said I don't plan on doing a multi-episode storyline that go longer than a week or three comics.
5. There can be swearing and saucy subject matter if I think it would be funny. But nothing that I would not show my dad.
Now then I am not going to change the name of the site. I plan on calling the comic 8Bit Joystick. And it will have lots of games it it but it will not be restricted to games. I have 14 comics written so far but I have not started officially drawing the final versions. There will be Comments and Trackbacks on each comic but I am going to move the comments and the comment form to back to a pop up window. Oh yeah and comics will not work when Hot Linked so don't even try to post them in your forum ID.
If you have any suggestions or ideas for jokes just email them to me and I will consider it for a future comic.
I worked out a new design for my character and coloring for the comic. I wanted to have a cleaner look to it and to add some shading to the coloring. I think that just a bit of shading makes up for the lack of cross hatching to the image.
This is a hell of a lot of fun and I really wonder why I did not do this earlier. I was not feeling confident in my artwork and writing I guess.
By the way River City Ransom EX rocks my GBA and I need to review it soon.

I was thinking of picking up some old school RiverCity action! I was debating between that and double dragon, but I think I need to finish up Metal Slug 3 first ;) I only wish RiverCity was 2 player capable with the GBA Player.. :(
