« Coming soon to The Stranger. Me! | Main | This just in.. Xbox confirmed dangerously dope. »

Well of course I need an Xbox 360 now!

I decided that to celebrate my first game review being published in The Stranger I am going to invest in an Xbox 360. This will allow me to review a whole slew of very important games that are going to be released in the years to come. Over the next couple years Xbox Uno, PS2, GBA and Gamecube game development are going to dry up and the majority of future game development are going to be on the PlayStation Portable, Nintendo DS, Nintendo Wii and the Xbox 360. I am going to have to bite the bullet and get one in order to keep up with the next five years of gaming.

Xbox 360
I don't see a very rosy future for the PlayStation 3 and I see the $600 price point hitting most gamers like a gunnysack full of bricks. So far I have not seen anything on the PS3 that the Xbox 360 can't do. Don't get me wrong I love my PS2 and PSP but I don't see a happy ending for the PS3.

Besides the greater Seattle area is home to not only Microsoft but Nintendo of America so an Xbox 360 would have some groovy local flavor. Damn now I could even get into some Microsoft and Nintendo press events. I can't wait to go to the PAX 2007 with a press pass. When I start writing for The Stranger I am going to be a much more legitimate journalist than I am now. I would have my reviews in a widely distributed printed publication in a major US city ( and on their website ) rather than some guy posting to his own nerdy website. I could register with game companies as a journalist and score some review copies. That would be awesome.

I think that Xbox Live is completely awesome and that having a 360 in the house would be a serious motivator to get DSL. I would have already have gotten an Xbox 360 if it were not for two dental crowns, my iBook, iPod, moving costs, and getting major engine work done on my car all within the past year. I will be able to hook it up to my LCD TV through the VGA port and should be able to play games at the native 1024 x 768 resolution of the TV. Also there is no way in hell that I would get rid of my old Xbox Uno for the current games that I have. Even with the backwards compatibility updates I am going to keep it around until all my Xbox uno games will work on the 360.

There are some seriously cool Xbox 360 games that I chemically need. Gears of War, Dead Rising, Dead or Alive 4, Need For Speed Carbon, Grand Theft Auto 4 and of course HALO 3. The last is going to be dangerously dope.

So to further my journalistic credentials I don't see how I could not get an Xbox 360. That is how I am currently rationalizing it and I'll stick to it as long as I can.

sweet to hear man! I'm about to invest in a 360 as well, right after i get done pimping my out my regular Xbox (I have it softmodded, i'm puttin in a chip, a faster IDE cable, a bigger harddrive, LCD screen, and some modchip rom bank selectors). You should try to come to PAX 06. My friends and I are going to be there filming for our online show, it'd be great to interview ya since you run such a great site.

Yeah I might go on Saturday. It is way too late for me to get a press pass for PAX 06.

Nice, glad to see you coming into the next-gen. Send me an email or a friend request on Xbox Live at QuickSilverGunk if you have any questions.

I have a Nintedo DS Lite and a Sony PSP. I can’t wait to get my Wii. The problem is that the concept of “Next Gen” changes over time. So far every game system on the market was at one time “Next Gen” Some day the Xbox 360 and the PS3 are going to be in the cheap used game bargain bins of the future.

Damn, I was trying hard not to buy one; but with this post, I MUST buy one too!!!
BTW, don't you think it will be a pitty to play it on a SD (regular) TV?

Need to read slower...

" I will be able to hook it up to my LCD TV through the VGA port and should be able to play games at the native 1024 x 768 resolution of the TV"

It is me the one stuck with a SDTV... :(

Dead Rising looks excellent, I want to play that one. I believe it just came out. I heard the PS3 will be compatible with all the old games, but it will not be able to use any of the old PS2 or PS1 memory cards, which really stinks. For $600 you think they could at least do that. But it's better than the X360's backward compatibility rate which is like, 37%? That's pitiful but it's still much higher than George W. Bush's approval rating. Right now Xbox 360 is more exciting to me than the PS3, mostly because of Dead Rising. BRAINSSS!!!!

Leave it to Capcom to make a zombastic game like Dead Rising.

Sony is going to sell a memory card adaptor for the PS3 so you can transfer saved games from the PS2 and PSOne memory cards to the PS3 hard drive but that does suck that there is not a PS2 Memory card port on it. But that is better than Microsoft because there is no official way to transfer saved games from an Xbox 1 to the 360 and the backwards compatibility does suck. Basically I am going to move my Xbox 1 to the floor under my coffee table and replace it with my 360. I want a 360 to play 360 games like Dead Rising and Gear of War.

You'll have to post your Gamertag once you get online. Grab a copy of Call of Duty 2 while you're at the store- you won't regret it!
I've had my 360 since February and I have only one piece of advice- skip the in-store extended warranties and save $30 or $60 for the Microsoft one. There's a form to complete in the box and it lasts longer than an in-store one.
Send me an email if you need any questions answered.

And here's the best part. You can deduct it from your taxes as a business expense!
