Wee! It Looks like You Can Pre-order a Wii!!
It is official. Gamestop/EB Games is going to start to take Pre-orders for both the Nintendo Wii and the Playstation 3 for a deposit of 50 bucks a piece. I am going to swing by there and see if I can reserve my Nintendo Wii.
If I can't get one pre-ordered in time I'll probably have to do what I did with the launch of the Nintendo DS. I went to Toys R Us and was there when they opened at 10:00 AM on the launch Sunday and got mine. Toys R Us always has a big shipment on the launch of new systems and they don't do a pre-order system so if you can't get a Wii reserved that is an option. Hopefully there will not be a shortage of the Wii. You can only reserve one PS3 or Wii per household so you can't reserve five PS3s and sell them for thousands on Ebay.
Of freaking course there is going to be shortages of the Playstation 3 and I am overwhelmed by an deep feeling that folks that wait in line to pay $600 for the first possibly buggy batch of the PS3 are tools to their Sony masters.

Your so right about the PS3. They are going to be buggy and people are going to lay down $800+ for one on launch day, including warantees and games, to get a buggy first batch next gen console. Expect a lot of complaining on the blogs.
I'm convinced that there won't be a shortage of Wiis though. They are well on schedule, I think ahead actually.

I pre-ordered at FYE about a month ago. I wonder if they were supposed to be taking orders. I do live in a rather rural county so they're low-risk for being overwhelmed regardless of when they open the doors.

The newly opened games store here is planning a midnight launch of the Wii.
