Wee! I gots Mii my Wii!

Today I took an early lunch and went to my local GameStop in order to be there when they opened. There was already a line of folks waiting to pre-order and reserve a Nintendo Wii. I don't think there is going to be bad shortages of the Wii at launch but I wanted one reserved just in case. The store only got 12 systems for launch day and the store employees had already reserved four. I was sixth in line and plunked down 50 bucks to reserve the system and five bucks a piece to reserve a copy of The Legend of Zelda : Twilight Princess and Red Steel for the Wii.

There was an asshole at the end of the line who was making everybody uncomfortable as he ranted about how he could not reserve one but the employees at the store are getting them. The store manager explained that the four for employees are from a different pool or allotted units and that they were only following company policy. I told the guy to go to Toys R Us on launch day but the guy just wanted to be a noisy bitch.

There was a very cute little girl in front of me in line who was going on and on to her folks about how much she loved The Legend of Zelda games and it gave me a flashback to my self in the 80s trying to get a copy of Zelda 2 : The Adventure of Link for Christmas 1988.

Earlier this year I paid some serious vet bills for our cats and Kymberly agreed to pay be back by getting me a Nintendo Wii for my birthday. I am going to give her my pre-order ticket and she is going to wrap it up and give it back to me for my birthday next week.

The Wii is based on rock solid ATI graphics chips and IBM PowerPC CPUs and is significantly more easy to manufacture than the PS3 and Xbox 360. Nintendo is expecting to have four millions units shipped by the end of the year and that is a completely realistic goal.

I just hope that the Wii game developers test their games for left handed gamers. It would suck if they only did their motion recognition algorithms in their games to only work if you are holding the Wiimote in your right hand.

I can the Wii will have a large amount of cult weird Japanese games and that kids are going to love it. I think things are shaping up for Nintendo to have a very good launch and they might have the number one selling game system this holiday season.
