Un-wired

Jim Carrey as Cable GuyYesterday I bit the bullet and canceled my cable modem account.

There were a couple reasons for this. The main reason is that the site hosting ISP that I have been using is finally getting a decent automated billing system. So I am going to have to switch from the advanced account at 10 bucks a month to the super-duper deluxe package at 25 a month. I just plan on paying about six months or so in advance so it should not be an issue. Also the deluxe hosting package will give me much more disk space and bandwidth so expect more images and stuff. They also got a new server so that is why this site was flaky early this week.

Oh yeah Comcast was going to offer me a special deal of 25 bucks a month for a year if I would not leave them. So if you have an account with them and if you threaten to leave them they might let you in on that super sweet deal.

I was always over at Kymberly's place or just never at home so I was not really getting my money's worth from the cable modem in the last couple months. It is a pity there is no real competition in my area and I can't get DSL.

Now I am going to get major downloads from a coffee shop or my local library via my notebook's Wifi card and use a standard dial-up account for most surfing and mail at home and you know what I am ok with that.

I need to pick a new Dial-up ISP before next week. I was thinking about Netscape ISP or Net-Zero but there is no way in hell that I would use the Wal-Mart ISP.

So how is the Netscape ISP and how is Net-Zero's ten buck a month deal?

I am going to miss the blinding speed that you can download Pr0n with my cable modem.

I really can't wait until WiMax is a viable alternative to the cable modem monopoly.

You know, I canceled my cable modem service once and did dial-up again. I was back with cable modem within a month and a half. With the running of a website, uploading content took way too long and the way websites are done these days the loading took forever as well. So, I went back to the evilness that is cable modem and the $60 a month.

dude, i'm not nearly as web savvy as you and i cannot stand dialup. since i've had my cable modem i've been pretty darn happy, you get what you pay for that's for sure. i'm really surprised you gave it up. my prediction: you'll hate it, you'll absolutely hate it.

Netzero's pretty good. I cancelled it earlier to get cable internet.

I used Netscape Online for a while -- it wasn't bad to start, but near the end of my run with them I was getting lousy service. To be fair I never called them to complain about it, and I cancelled it soon after that in favour of cable at my new place.
