TV Shows Were Made to be Episodic so Space Out Your DVDs.

Slim Samsung DVD PlayerFor the past couple days I have been watching the TV series Rome on DVD but I have made and effort to stretch it out and only watch one episode a day and I sort of subconscious started watching it at the same time of the day.

Now I don't have cable and don't watch broadcast TV so I get all of my TV on DVD from Netflix or my local video store. It is just not natural to sit down and watch a years worth of a show in a single sitting. My girlfriend Kymberly is to total opposite of this. She loves to clear her schedule and watch a TV show on DVD in one big marathon session.

Watching an episode a day give you a chance to think about what happened and to speculate and anticipate what you think is going to happen next. TV shows like this were artistically intended as episodic serials and to be spaced out over time. This is sort of the best of both worlds. I get to pause and replay it as will as well as watching it whenever I want but this way I sort of get to watch it as it was intended in one hour bite size chunks.

Over all I just think that it is just mentally healthier because you are not absorbing all the mindless commercials and since the show is divorced from being broadcast at a specific time you have some leeway as to when to watch it. Sure I usually start an episode at 10:30 but if I have to delay it five minutes to play with the cats the DVD does not care.

I've been watching simpsons and futurama every night before I go to sleep, and I do usually get through one episode per evening, sometimes with commentary right after. If my head keeps bumping the headboard, I know it's time to turn off the dvd player!

I try to watch one a night as well, but with shows like Carnivale, or the Sopranos, it's so hard to not watch the next one.

I started netflix recently. What plan do you guys have? I have the 1 at a time plan, but I'm thinking of upgrading. Not because of the throttling, but because simply for tv shows on dvd. Ever think about doing a Netflix review on the site?

I reviewed Netflix here

We started at two at a time but we moved to four at a time.

I forgot about that review... No problems yet though?

Just yesterday, they "shipped" my movie out and they told me to expect it on Tuesday.... I have no idea why not Saturday or even Monday... I also subscribe to GreenCine, the wait is longer for me though because I'm in NH. You might want to check them out. They are honest and have an excellent selection, and they are closer to you. I do like Netflix member page better though.
