Turbo Express, Smash Bros. Brawl, Roller Derby and Billy Mitchell

I had a very memorable weekend. I went over to Seattle for the Rust Riot roller derby tournament host by the Rat City Roller Girls. It ends up that the other announcer couldn't make it so I got to announce and call the play by play commentary for the Slaughter County Roller Vixens in the tournament. They did a great job against the much more experienced Rose City Rollers from Portland and they put up a good score but didn't make it out of the first round. I had a great time and we all learned a lot. My photos from the tournament are here on my Flickr.

But before that I was going to meet my friend BBQ at Pink Godzilla Games. Once I got there the owners invited me into the back store room where they were playing a game of Super Smash Bros. Brawl on their imported Japanese Nintendo Wii. The game looked awesome but I didn't get to play it because BBQ showed up shortly after. He had an interesting story.

Last year we went and saw the documentary King of Kong : A Fistfull of Quarters about the competion between the worlds best Donkey Kong players. The movie is now out on DVD and it's a very engrossing movie. One of the films stars is the legendary Billy Mitchell. A side from being an awesome record holding champion video game player Billy Mitchell he is a successful restaurateur of a place known for hot wings in Florida. He also sells his hot wing sauce and my pal BBQ being a great fan of both video games and spicy meat sauces ordered some over the Internet. Now there apparently was a problem with the zip code on BBQ's order so he got a call from none other than Billy Mitchell himself. They ended up talking for a bit and they discussed the movie and hot sauce. He told Billy about 8bit Joystick.com and asked if I could interview him. He said yeah and soon I need to arrange an interview with Billy Mitchell, the only person to play a completely perfect game of Pac-man. So that interview is coming soon.

Now Pink Godzilla had several NEC PC-Engine systems and I asked if they had any TurboGrafx-16 systems, the US version of the PC-Engine.

Then that is when the saleswoman reached behind the counter and pulled out a TurboExpress handheld game system. She said that they just got it and had yet to even enter it into their inventory system. Now I had wanted a TurboExpress when I was a kid and I still regret the day that I got rid of my TurboGrafx system. The TurboExpress is a handheld portable player of the TurboGrafx and I simply had to have it. Later on I found some games at a shop in the U-District.

So I am now on the look out for TurboGrafx-16 HuCards. I'll do a full review of it soon.
