This just in: AOL SUCKS!
Or so "Shitty to use it is a wonder why it is number 1?"
Via CNN
AOL Time Warner Inc. said Tuesday it expects a sharp profitability decline in 2003 at its ailing America Online unit and reaffirmed forecasts for 2002 results.
So AOL is loosing cash because people are finally realizing that they suck.
I knew that this would happen eventually. Users are figuring out that they are getting a inferior tech product but they were lured in by massive market share and promises of ease of use. Or the absurdity of paying AOL and then having them repeatedly piss away the users privacy and personal marketing information. Microsoft has a lot to learn from the slow death of AOL. That they too can see a declining market share one people figure out that there are better choices out there even though they are not the "Market Leader"
I got a Earthlink Subscription CD in the mail yesterday I am debating giving it a try instead of Northsound.net. I got a chuckle that their main marketing ploy is pointing out how much AOL sucks and their biggest advantage is a popup window blocker for IE. But I am happy with Linux and Mozilla for most of my computing needs.
So any Earthlink users want to let me know what they think about it?

The only way to defeat AOL is to have the ENTIRE world swinging from your nuts (ovaries if you are female)so you must start your own ISP and have a few million customers.....the next step is to have a bunch of analysts advise you that this whole "internet" thing is too complicated for the average individual and that you need to cater to the dumb or elderly citizens...or people who are young....but dumb.....and then i guess that you would be in the same boat as THEM DANGIT!!!!

Well I remember the day that AOLTIMEWARNERCNNNETSCAPEAIM was actually an ISP. I mean talk about expanding to the point of dilution of focus of the company,

My dad has been having a lot of trouble with Earthlink, lots of connection problems on their end.
There are still a ton of smaller ISPs out there. Here in Santa Cruz we have a great local ISP.
Even on a nationwide basis there are alternatives: the ISP PeoplePC (peoplepc.com) offers dial up for only 15.95/month (9.95/month for a super stripped down servie), and they have more dial up numbers then AOL or MSN (they also OEM dial up to other companies, the gay ISP pride.com is just peoplepc with a pride flag)
and everyone besides AOL and MSN these days seems to be offing spam filtering and pop-up blockcking (though you could just use Mozilla, Chimera, or Phoenix)

Mindspring was great. Then it became Earthlink and everything started to unravel.. I haven't used Earthlink in a year but at the very least I think it's better than AOL or MSN. Just don't install their software. It's nothing but bloatware. One thing you must do before switching ISPs is check the access numbers. A lot of ISPs use the same networks, and switching to another ISP who uses the same access number where you are will get you nowhere. In my small town AOL, MSN, Earthlink, and Juno all use the same overburdened UUNET access number. I finally switched to a local ISP with its own network.

Don't think anybody's going to be getting a joyous experience with Earthlink! I had a year full of absolute lunacy with that company. The worst customer service I've ever experienced. I had something like 4 months of free service because they f**ked up so badly -- even the supervisors were running around not know which way was up. My account was so badly screwed up that nobody could understand anything. Finally I begged and pleaded to be let out of their web. I felt like a hostage and I had to negotiate my own release. I swore I will never, ever, ever, ever use that company again!!!!!!

Give up AOHell and every other dialup and go with DSL or Cable Modem. If you try it you will NEVER go back to a dialup. Example: D/L speeds when I was stuck with AOL averaged around 25-35 kbps. With DSL I am now averaging (on the same sites, mind you) anywhere from 80-110kbps. My price per month? About ten bucks more than AOL was charging me. Only bright spot with AOL was the fact that I never ONCE paid for it. Came free with a system I bought.

The only time I installed AOL was so I could access the Earthlink site to sign up for their service. On the first run of AOHell I got 23 spam mails before my net connection finally cleared up enough for Mozilla to do its thing.
Wish I had any broadband options out here in suburbia (or decent dial-up, for that matter), but AT&T has no interest in upgrading their lines or spreading their coverage area. 'Course, every ISP in my area is so secretive about their broadband coverage or pricing that I'm beginning to think that DSL/Cable is a myth in this city.

For people hating EarthLink and moving to PeoplePC: Do you know PeoplePC is an EarthLink company? LOL

I used to do tech support for HP/Compaq. I found out that AOL owns and uses earthlink to test its browser software before it puts it into thier crap. So if you want a "wonderful" experience choose earthlink.

You all that bash AOL must have nothing beter to do: go ahead- use other providers, and you will find that AOL has allot more too offer... They always go back to AOL.. And if your having billing problems and blame AOl " stop putting/ or letting your children put disk after disk" and you wil stop being billed..
