The Real Dope on the Fake Playstation Portable Pictures
On July 29th a Czechoslovakian website posted what they claimed were exclusive leaked photos of the Playstation Portable. Gizmodo posted them but in retrospect took them down. When I first saw them I figured they were fake and I was not the only one. Here is a breakdown why I think that these are not the real Playstation Portable.

1. I emailed the site owner and he claimed that he got them from a local Sony PR rep who leaked the images to him. I thought this to be complete bull shit because Sony has never had leaks like this before and I doubt that a Sony PR rep in Czechoslovakia would have access to the most secret design images of Sony Computer Entertainment in Japan.
2. The pictures look like they were photoshoped professional shots of the Sony Palm OS CILE line PDA. It looks like a Sony PDA had a kid with a old GameBoy. I have more faith in the Sony designers.
3. The image is really low resolution, blurry and has bad JPEG compression. If they were high resolution in multiple angles I would have more faith.
4. The controls are way to small to be playable.
5. It looks like a very unergonomic design.
6. They would have shown it at a press conference if they were ready to show it.
7. The hardware is not finished and there are no developer kits being shipped yet. That would have to happen before they finalize the unit design.
8. It just triggered my built in bullshit detectors.
Now you know and knowing is half the battle. Yo Joe!!! GI Joe!!

Yeah it looks like a terrible mock up. They even forgot to put the little PSP logo on the third mock-up

Yeah, this resembles my Sony Clie too much....! Can't wait to see what the hand held device will look like & feature.

9. Where are the shoulder buttons supposed to be?
If the past is any measure, the development time of a system like this is quite a lengthy process, with the physical design of the system often being one of the final steps. These shots are pure wankery, and I expect more such fakes to surface.

Plus, what's with the flip cover. It seems to serve no purpose except to protect the screen and control pad. And it's indented differently on the first angle vs the other two.
This sort of follows with your comment about the controls. Why would they sacrifice device real estate by having a thin metal cover on one half with the controls and screen squished on the other when they could mimic the design of the GBA-SP. Not that they would, it just seems like a waste.

heh...i doubt i would have noticed ;)

That is most definitely just a Photoshop os the GBA-SP with VERY minor changes.

If you look carefully.... at the actual controls, and the PSP logo. around the area are pixels and color issues very easily indicating that they where added later....BADDLY with photoshop at a low compression.
if your going to fake a picture... make sure no one can tell....jesus!.

Look at where it says PSP. The last P is closer to the S then the first P. This is totally fake.

this is crazy. the PSP logo looks alot like the ps2 logo with the 2 photoshopped. if you look closely you can see a slot for a stylus. that's definitely a photoshopped clie.

Obviously fake.
the PS logo on the cover (shown in 2nd pic)
cannot be seen in the 3rd pic.
probably because it was too hard to photoshop
the logo in at that angle.

On that so called "Czechoslovakian website" stays that those pictures are only how the PSP could possibly look like. So it is not their fault you didnt understand.
Another thing is, that there is no Czechoslovakia since 1.1.1993 /11 years!/. The country has split into Slovakia and Czech republic. The website you have mentioned is a czech one /.cz/, slovak sites are .sk
Maybe it would be nice if you were able to notice such an unimportant thing like two new countries in the center of Europe. Czech republic is the one heading towards the Euro 2004 title, Slovakia has won the World hockey championship in Sweden in 2002. Hope I have made it easier for u.
wishing all the best

They were still trying to be deceptive. The PSP ended up looking nothing like these.
