The PSP is a Swell Xbox 360 Accessory

This past weekend I really got a chance to find out that the PSP slim can have an awesome synergy with the Xbox 360.

PSP and Xbox 360

One of the new features on the PSP slim is that it can charge via the USB cable and it ends up that the USB ports on the Xbox 360 remain powered after the unit is turned off. It's not really "turned off" but in a very deep sleep and that's why it can be awoken by the wireless controllers. I've been really playing my PSP since I got Castlevania : Dracula X Chronicles and I misplaced my PSP charger so I've been charging it via the Xbox 360 and then playing it on my TV via the video-out port on the PSP Slim.

Then later on in the weekend I got stuck while playing Blue Dragon on the 360 (So far I am on the second disc and only have two achievements) so rather than getting my butt off the couch I grabbed my PSP and fired up the web browser. I tried going to the FAQ on GameFaqs.com but the PSP web browser didn't like the Flash ad before loading the main page so I did a Google search for "GameFaq Blue Dragon" and found the file that I was looking for. It ends up that I was in front of the right door all along.

When you put the PSP into USB mode you can view all the media on the MemoryStick on the Xbox 360. Since the last update the Xbox 360 can play MP4 Videos and it's much more flexible in the kind of video files that it will accept including all the video files that you can play on the PSP. All the MP3s and pictures on the stick also work great on the 360. It's a perfect example of both devices using standard media formats and out of character for both Sony and Microsoft who can be known for pushing their own propriety media formats. The Xbox 360 is one of the most user friendly consumer media devices and the PSP is quite an impressive portable gaming device with it's almost equally as impressive media features. They work great together.
