The Notebook China Syndrome
I have two of next weeks three comics written, penciled, inked and scanned and I just have to color and letter them. I plan on doing my penciling and inking on every Monday, Wednesday and Friday then doing the lettering and colors on the weekends.
I am a ball of frustration right about now. You see I have been trying to color a comic in Painter 7 but my note book keeps overheating and going into emergency shut down. There are no error messages or warnings it just goes right to God-damn off as soon as I try to make a simple stroke with my Wacom tablet.
I am pretty let down by this because I have not used painter since version 4 or so but I started using it at version 1.0 on the Mac in high school. I think that it is the finest computer paint program in the entire world and I am rather pissed to run into problems like this. Granted it is not cool in my apartment but I am frustrated to have a great software tool to color my comic giving me such strife. The entire ordeal is making me want to buy a new notebook or a desktop PC with a big freaking heat sink and cooling system.
I have heard people running into problems with their notebooks like this but this is the first time that I have had serious issues like this.
Ah well I have not had problems in Photoshop and I will try to color my comic in GIMP 2.0 or good old Photoshop but I am still ticked at my notebook having an allergic reaction to some serious use with Painter
I also just wanted to say that turkey-flavored tofu loaf is actually really good tasting when you bake it.

What you need to do is get a notebook that is always invincible. Or at least take the one you have and adjust it to normal.

My notebook is terrible in this respect. I cant play games that are really graphics intensive (Myst for example, yet Red Alert 2 goes fine) without my computer blue screening and shutting down.
I have similar problems in Photoshop when I try to do too much at once, and playing video files is a never ending nightmare, I never know when my computers going to restart. I might get an hour watched, or I might get 5 minutes.
I've put it down to crappy ventilation, and possibly an underpowered PSU. Compaq doesnt seem to know whats going on, when I contacted customer support I got told to download the latest drivers, a run of the mill answer if ever I saw one.

Alienware!
There is no compromise with notebooks. You can either have power or you can have battery life. With my new alienware I get both. 3 Hours of battery life and the power to spare for GFX. The old green one was great but it had terrible battery life (about an hour and a half)...
You might be on the ball with a descent desktop system because they are really cheap.
Maybe your wacom tablet is to blame. Try using other tools for awhile. Happy fourth of July everyone!

Have you checked the Task Manager for CPU usage? Seems to me that Painter is doing something (windows) illegal and slurping up all your CPU-time, which causes it to overheat.
