The Good and Bad News about My Video Podcasts
Some folks have been wondering what is the deal with the delay in getting new 8bitjoystick video podcasts. Well the problem that I’ve been dealing with is that making a video podcast is pretty darn time intensive and requires about five to ten times the amount of time that I normally would invest researching and writing a blog article. I could see doing just video podcasts and just regular web articles but it is a major time management issue to juggle between both of them.
Doing a video podcast is a multimedia production requiring scripting, recording video, digitizing video, editing video, recording audio, compressing the video, checking the video, uploading the video and then updating the websites and RSS feeds. That is much more than just writing an article.
So I am going to try to mix the two and try adding multimedia elements to my articles like more original screenshots and video clips. I think it is more realistic to have multimedia elements added to articles and reviews rather than having a separate video podcast production and a blog. I just want to best spend the time that I have working on this site in the best possible way. If I ever did this site for a day job it would be awesome with Video podcasts and like ten new articles a day, but until then I do need to actually play some games and sleep sometime.
Today I picked up a new MadCatz Universal video cable to hook up my Wii, PS2 and Xbox 360 to my rarely used Phillips DVD Video recorder. This is using a S-Video cable and I can capture a video file at normal TV resolution and then I burned it to a DVD+RW and took some Snapshots using VLC. The results are passable and could have turned out worse and I think that it is usable. This took a fraction of the time that it would take me to make a whole video podcast.
I am going to try a test using Blip TV because I am sort of fed up with the low quality of video on YouTube.
The bad news is that I am unlikely to do more episodes of the video podcast since they take a lot of time to do.
The good news is that I am going to start to make my own screenshots and video clips to integrate into my articles.
Here are some test screenshots.
