There was a rumor on teh intarweb that in some early copies of the NES game Gyromite there was a 72 to 60 Pin adaptor that would allow you to play Japanese Famicom games on an American Nintendo like my top loading NES. I got the game for a buck and a game store and wanted to find out if the rumor was true. I could not find my set of mini electrician screw drivers so I busted open the cart with my bare hands. The rumor was that Nintendo included an adaptor on some early batches of Gyromite to meet a christmas season production deadline. It ends up that the Gods of Nintendo were not smiling on me and there was no super rare adaptor in there.

Damn I can't wait to get my Generation Nex so I can play the seven Famicom games that I now own in anticipation of it. So has anyone found a Famicom to NES adaptor in an early copy of Gyromite?
My copy of Gyromite still works although it now is quite less than mint condition.

It's no rumor, there are converter boards in some of them. Mainly it's the copies that were included with the first release of the NES (where Gyromite and Duck Hunt were the two pack-in games). When going through boxes of carts at say, a flea market or used game store, if you hold a Gyromite cart that has a converter in it in one hand and a normal NES cart in the other, the Gyromite cart will be slightly heavier. They're not all that rare either, just a nice bonus sometimes.
Just wish you would have taken your time with the cart, $1 game or not. *shudder*
It is only on some copies of the game. What happened was nintendo had not manufactored the games for US release yet at launch of the NES. so they took the famicom games, slapped a connector on it, put it in the case,BAM! American Game.
As InsaneDavid said, it isn't a rumor. That's how i got mine. It's just luck of the draw.
I thought I found a princess in an old Super Mario Brothers cart but alas she was in another castle!
Get "Stack Up". 100% every copy has the converter.
Hey Jake, it's not a rumor. Check out my guide on How to Tell if a Copy of Gyromite has a Famicom Adapter in it. Here's the URL:

I got lucky and got a cheap-o Gyromite and it just happened to have it. I'm pretty sure all launch games have one (every Stack-Up has one and I own it too). I don't think SMB has one because it's a pack-in.
