Stereo of the Rock Gods

Lars Ulrich is a Corporate Rock WhoreThe whole MP3 capable car stereo thing combined with Apple iTunes has been working out well. However I might want to get a home stereo system for my apartment to augment my music playing needs.

I I have been wondering if perhaps I should get a mini-stereo that I could play MP3s on and hook up to my videogame game systems. I think that Panasonic and Sony has really cool mini-stereo systems that would integrate wonderfully with my TV and game systems and I dig the fact that it has a remote control and can play CD-Rs full of MP3 files.

However on I have noticed that when ripping some CDs with iTunes to MP3 that my notebook fan will kick into overdrive and possibly overheat and shut down. That is a pain in the ass and it might be due to the hot ass summer months. I am going to try some other solutions to rip my CDs to MP3s. However I still need to finish sorting my MP3 files and to get serious about ripping my old CDs to MP3s.

I am not going to consider getting a stereo system until I finish cleaning up the music situation that I already have. I also live on the 2nd floor of an apartment building and I might have to be careful about using too much audio power.

I'm getting the itch to buy a small form-factor PC like a Shuttle and build my own media center. Something that can do PVR, play MP3, DVD, maybe some games. There are just so many options I'm not quite sure what to do.

Jake, you really need to move out of your apartment so that you can have some freedom. You know that whatever you do there will be complaints from above or below. Buy a house mister! You have the means and you will make money on it in this area. I have already made 30,000 on my house and it has only been 4 years. Pretty good if you ask me.
I would definitely go with the Sony for your home entertainment needs. There is nothing bad to say about Sony, as you know. They are always making the good stuff and testing it to make sure it is as good as it is reviewed.
I power my entire home theatre system off of an INDESTRUCTABLE 600 Watt Sony amp. I just can't say anything bad about it. It runs everything and never complains. Never a worry. Uncanny, really...like the PS2.
