So What Happened To the PDA Version?

Today Promo Guy asked:

"Jake, do you still offer a mobile version (PDA) of your site? I used to read you via Avantgo, but the last post in that feed is way old."

Well a couple months ago I upgraded to Movable Type 3.X and I had to re-design my templates to take advantage of MT 3 and switch to MT 3 plugins.

So the 8Bitjoystick.com PDA Version has not been updated since then but luckily there are now several RSS clients out there for PDAs. Hell they just updated the PSP firmware to support RSS. So I now think that PDA and mobile version of content based websites are obsolete and that RSS and other forms of syndication are going to replace customized version of websites for mobile content.

Here is a list of Pocket PC RSS Readers and Palm OS RSS Readers.

My RSS feed is here. It has the last 15 posts with no ads and it can be formatted for just about any format like a PDA screen. I love NetNewsWire Lite on my iBook and I use it every day.

So to summarize PDA mobile version are as dead as OS/2 and RSS and other syndicated content is the way of the future.

Worth mentioning is the fact that Avantgo now supports RSS feeds natively.

Ah, now that is good to know Allen. And thanks Jake for the answer.

Last time I looked the few Pocket PC RSS Readers there were wanted you to be online to use them. But wow, look how many there are now. I've been pretty focused on my new Tablet PC, that I never thought to revisit RSS on the PPC.

Thanks!
