The European Union voted Monday to outlaw tobacco ads in newspapers and magazines, on the Internet and at international sports events in the 15-nation bloc starting in 2005. The new restrictions were approved by 13 of the 15 EU nations, enough to push through the bill which was drawn up by the EU's executive Commission after a court ruling struck down an earlier ban.
I don't have a problem with people who smoke I just hate the industry including the massive conglomerates that profit from spreading cancer and death. My grandfather had 12% of his lungs still working when he died. Yes Peter I know that Al Gore has ties to tobacco money
This is just stupid. Heres why. If you ban tobacco ads what are you accomplishing? I think that all ads should be allowed including ads for hard liquor and drugs. As you know I hate Eurotrash because of thier elitism and by the way who smokes more than Eurotrash? Maybe the Japanese. What is the point here anyway? Banning things NEVER works....if anything it just makes the mystique for kids that much more prevalent. Again what is the point? This is typical of that "progressive" mindset that says "we will pass legislation to protect the children". Just like the counter-terrorism laws that destroy privacy right now.....i know it may seem like a stretch but it is that mindset. I just want more freedom in advertising, not less. And NO I dont think that you should be able to target children for booze and cigarrette ads. That is not what i am saying.
yesterday i was behind a car with a bumper sticker that read "its hard to be huhmble when your english". It had a big assed british flag on it too. Ya know what? I think that the British culture is whacked out beyond all belief. CAN YOU IMAGINE what it would be like if an American were to go to Europe and drive around with a bumper sticker like that? How long do you think that car would last being keyed and kicked every day? This illustrates why i hate the arrogant Europeans so much. While they accuse us of being arrogant, it is they who refuse to embrace our ways while they are here. What is so great about America is that we have NO culture. Thats why we tell Europe what they really think on a regular basis....because they will pay us to know what they really think.
