Small Technological Events That Make It All Worth While

Madcats Lynx WirelessThere are a few technologies that I could live without if I had to but I just don't want to.

1. Running hot water and soap. I totally agree with Tyler Durton that soap is the yard stick of civilization. If you don't agree with me then just try to use go a week without taking a shower.

2. Wireless Video Game Controllers. Last night I had a wonderful time playing Playstation2 lying on my girlfriend's place while having a kitten asleep on my chest. My wireless PS2 controller works out perfectly when you have cats that are fascinated by wires. It is almost not worth it to play with normal controllers in their presence because you end up spending most of your time fighting them off from chewing the cords.

3.Unlimited supply of easily accessible ice at restaurants. I just don't see how people can think of Europe as cultured if you have to hunt and ask for a glass full of ice and water.

4.Movies on DVD. The best damn way to watch a movie at home or on a laptop. Cheap to manufacture and distribute too.

5. All you can eat Internet access. It was not until that AOL and other ISPs went to a flat rate with unlimited use that the Internet became a must have for any informed household. One of the reasons why I don't like the idea of a cell phone so you have to watch your usage and you get screwed if you actually want to use the technology as a constant. Internet usage charged by the minute truly sucked.

Remote Control (wireless) is the most important invention of the 20th century. period.

"glass full of ice and water" literally means "glass full of water (frozen state) and water (liquid state)"

running hot water is cool too, dvds are not important, internet is great.

I agree with the ice water comment and soap yard stick.

Question for you. what is the batterie life like on those wireless controllers. Kids need a no-trip solution for dad and the dog.

Thanks

I don't use it every day only when I play my PS2 over at my girlfriend's place but I would say the batteries would last about a week or two of normal use. I have some rechargable NiMH batteries that do the trick. I don't buy or use disposable batteries

I am not sure which brand of wireless controller Jake uses, I think MadCatz. But I bought the newer Logitech Action Cordless Controller in July and am yet to change the batteries in it. I use my controller an average of, I would say, 20 hours a week, if not more since there are two of us who use the Playstation 2 on a regular basis.

By the way, the smart-guy with the glass of water and water comment: frozen water is in a _solid_ state. solid and liquid. not frozen and liquid.

From you stupid comment I feel embarassed as an European. I don't find ice in restaurant (btw. I don't demand this feature - personally I find it redundant - it's cultural difference you probably haven't noticed) or 5 tv sets with 2 fridges in each house as an attribute of civilization. Civilization means CULTURE (meaning independent shared knowledge inluding art etc.) and ORDER (respected rules in the society) and according to this measurement many nature nations are more "civilized" than uebermenschlich you.
It's very nice example of consume thinking to define civilization as "soap, wireless control and restaurant with water and ice".

I still hope it was just a joke I didn't get.

PS. I am not vegetarian "savethenaturekillemallsburnusatogroundihatebush" freak, I am software engineer in love with luxury.

Wow. Over here in America we have this thing called "Sarcasm". I am not sure if you can get it over in Europe. It was a joke
