Review : WarioWare,Inc. Mega Party Game$ for Gamecube
Today I saw that WarioWare,Inc. Mega Party Game$ for the Gamecube out and only 30 bucks.
I am a big fan of the original WarioWare game for Gameboy Advance so this directors cut should be right up my ally. This is one of the weirder Japanese Games out there. This is a port of a Gameboy Advance game to the Gamecube with some improvements but the graphics and style is essentially the same. There are new mini games in this but about 75% of this game is a port of the Gameboy Advance game. That is not such a bad thing because the constant hectic surreal approach to WarioWare is still here. There is still loads of short, wacky, creative mini-games that you must figure out and perform under the gun as they come at a faster and faster pace. It puts you in a Zen like state after a while with the uki uki waku waku feeling! You do not think consciously but rather react to the game as fast as you can separate of thought.
The big improvement is that there is a multiplayer party mode that I can't wait to try out with others. BBQ better prepare himself for my WarioWare onslaught. My girlfriend has not been a serious videogame since the days of the Intellivision but I am going to loan her my GBA SP and my copy of Warioware to get her hooked on the wacky hectic goodness only to move her on to the multiplayer Warioware party games. Oh yeah.
I think the GBA game had a better "story"presentation but those who have played the GBA game know what I am talking about. As long as Nintendo keep hiring wacky, creative talent that produces stuff like this I think they will be around despite any pressure from Sony and Microsoft.
I think what really works about this game is that it does not take itself too serious and it can be learned by videogame novices but it delivers large quantities of old-school videogame mayhem.
This is a deal at $30 new and I know that it should really appeal to casual gamers as well as retro-gamers. It is not a real sequel by any definition of the word but that does not stop it from being an almost orgasmic rush of pure videogame fun.

Does WarioWare push the Gamecube CPU to its limits? Absolutely not. But it absolutely entertains and that's the whole point of gaming, isn't it?

I'll probably pick this one up, but not for $30. I'll wait until it goes down to $15 or less. Why? I'm cheap, that's why. A dollar saved is a dollar earned, and I already have too many games I need to finish. :)
WarioWare on the GBA was pretty fun, although I never finished it.

Coolness. My girlfriend has been anticipating this. She's a big fan of Mario Party and it's wacky games. We end up losing a mini-game or two because she's dropped the controller laughing.

WarioWare on the GBA is genius. It's not only totally genre-defining, but also very accessible, and above all else, a blast to play. Porting this up for four-player, big-screen play may be a bit of a cash-in, but I'm looking forward to some multiplayer sessions anyway.
