Review : Street Fighter III 3rd Strike for Dreamcast
I felt terrible once i found out that the gift of the controller of pure evil inflicted great havoc and destruction on BBQs Dreamcast so I went to the used game store ( Game Crazy ) where I got the game pad and convinced her to take ten bucks off the cost of a used Dreamcast. So i got a used Dreamcast for BBQ for fifteen bucks and this one the controllers work with out and extra soldering work.
In order to test this Dreamcast out I felt it was necessary to play the most advanced and mature 2d fighter game made to this date. Street Fighter III 3rd Strike by Capcom.
This game did not make such a big splash in the US arcades but it is a true work of art made by master animators and designers. I like to think about this game as "Street Fighter 3.3".
When Street Fighter 3 came out in the arcade on the Capcom CPS-3 hardware it had fluidity of animation that I don't think has been surpassed to this date. Besides Ryu and Ken there were all new fighters with a matured version of the Capcom fighting game concept. New fighters were added in the revision to the game Street Fighter 3 Double Impact and now Third Strike has new backgrounds, animations, music and more fighters.
There is a real learning curve in this game but since it builds on all previous Capcom fighting games most hard core gamers can pick it up quickly. The animation is to die for. I honestly think that Capcom's animators are more talented than anyone at Disney.
The music is a evolved mix of Acid Jazz, Drum and bass techno, and British trip-hop. BBQ does not like some of the rapping in the introduction animation but I am down with it.
The AI is not a dumb ass and you can actually get a good work out from it but there is nothing like playing another street fighter fan at this game and take advantage of the evolved fighting system. The final boss Gil is one of the cheapest evil pricks to wear the last boss nametag.
This game is actually a good place to rekindle a love of 2d fighting games. It is criminal that this game has not been re-released on the PS2. I am happy to read about Capcom VS Sammy and hopefully we will see more 2d fighting games from Capcom. May they be as plentiful as Megaman games.
It is a shame that this game is not available to a wider platform but I implore all you animation lovers to get a used Dreamcast and a copy of this game.
