Review : Street Fighter II Turbo: Hyper Fighting on Xbox Live Arcade

Street_Fighter_II_-_Hyper_Fighting.jpgThe one game on Xbox Live Arcade game that I always find myself playing is the Capcom's classic Street Fighter II Turbo. I can't get over the fact that I am compelled to play a 2d fighting game from 1992 on a system as powerful as the Xbox 360.

Street Fighter II Turbo is a slightly upgraded version of Street Fighter II but with faster game play, 12 characters playable and a few additional special moves.

I used to be hooked on Capcom Vs SNK 2 EO over Xbox Live on the original Xbox but since that game can't be played on the Xbox 360 this is the next best thing. The ironic thing is that since Capcom's fighting games are mostly 2d graphics running through the CPU and memory they should be one of the easiest game to emulate on the Xbox 360, but I guess they are focusing in only making 3d Xbox one games work via emulation on the 360. I should start a petition for Microsoft to support Capcom Vs SNK 2 EO on the 360. I would gladly shell out my hard earned cash for more 2d Capcom fighting games on the Xbox 360 granted that they have game play over Xbox Live.

The controls of a Street Fighter game was actually a bit better on the original Xbox since the black and white buttons were next to the other four buttons. Since there is only four buttons on the front of the controller you have to use the top button to get to all six required for Street Fighter. If I only had a decent arcade fighting stick for the Xbox 360.

This is a decent port of the game but it has an excellent Xbox Live implementation that keeps pulling me back in. It is an easy game to come back to after a night of getting slaughtered while playing Gears of War. It is a comfortable game to come back to and the ability to have an unlimited supply of other human players to fight is all to wondrous to pass up. I love hearing the the voice of the other player and like a good game of Chess just about every gamer knows how to play this game and yet no one plays it exactly the same.

Since I already have this game on the Super Nintendo, Dreamcast, PS2, Gameboy Advance and PSP I didn't really need another copy of this game but the lure of Street Fighter on Xbox Live is just too great.

This is a downloadable game for sale that resides on your storage device for the cost of a mere 800 MS Points. That works out to $10. That's a good deal and there is really no excuse for absolutely ever Xbox Live gamer to not have a copy of this game on their hard drive.

This isn't "arcade perfect" not even close. It's a port of the Playstation/Sega Saturn version that appeared in Street Fighter Collections, and it's missing animation frames and the sprite sizes are inaccurate.
