Review : Shadow the Hedgehog for Gamecube
Last week I lucked out at the used game store. They had three kick as new Gamecube games in as used and there was a buy two get one free used game sale so I got three newish Gamecube games for 60 bucks. So one of the games that I got was Shadow the Hedgehog.
I have a soft spot in my heart for the games made by Sonic Team and Sonic games by Sonic Team are extra nice.
Shadow the Hedgehog is sort of a multi-platform sequel to Sonic Adventure 2 and Sonic Heroes but it is centered around Shadow the Hedgehog. It is a action game like the Sonic missions of Sonic Adventure 2 and it is fast and furious. Since Shadow is sort of the bad Hedgehog you can use weapons like swords, gun and rocket launchers as well as just running and jumping at the bad guys. In the story there is this group of evil aliens from another planet or something and they are tempting Shadow with the truth of his past since he can't remember a thing.
As you play through the level there are two meeters that will fill up when you help either the good guys or the bad guys by attacking the other ones. Once the meeter is full you can either do a Chaos Blast for evil or fly super fast in a Chaos Control for the good guys. If you are exclusively good or bad the guys on your side will stop attacking you and recognize you as a friend.
There are three ways you can play a level with three different goals there is a Hero, Neutral and Evil goal in each level and the story and levels branch out depending on what one you pick. I could see playing through the game a whole bunch of different ways to see all the levels and stuff. It is sort of
There are some bad reviews of this game out there but I am chalking them up to jaded video game magazine editors that wanted this game to be something else.
This game is all about quick Sonic action with fast moving action and lots and lots of things blowing up. I got the Gamecube version and it looked awesome. The game is a weird blend of darker weirder but still cartoon Sonic action. I only had the expectation of some good fast Sonic action and this game delivered however if you are worried about the bad fan boy reviews out there you might want to rent it first. If you have not played a 3d Sonic game then you should start with Sonic Adventure but this was a fun kick ass change of a 3d platform action game. When Mario came to the Gamecube he got a magical water cannon and when Shadow the Hedgehog got his own game he got a wide selection of big ass guns.

I can't believe it, somebody wrote a good Shadow review! Good job! But you realize, half the people on earth will think your a fanboy and not believe anything you say now, right? -_- Anyway, I'm also one of the few who enjoyed Shadow's latest adventure, even though I thought it had some major problems. It doesn't deserve any worse of a review than Soic Adventure, and it really does deliver the 3d sonic feel- whether you think that's good or bad.
