Review : Salsa Doritos
I grew up in Eastern Washington in a the Columbia River valley where there is a strong Hispanic cultural influence that has been a part of the region of the state since the white man first came. So I am not a stranger to traditional Mexican cooking. In fact I revere it and have developed a primal lust after all things spicy, hot and salty. There is a hell of a difference between authentic traditional Mexican cooking and that Taco Bell shit. Taco Bell and similar "food products" are a bastardized pathetic joke of a cultural cuisine. It is comparing Irish cultural heros to Lucky and his box of Lucky Charm cereal.
Bad Gringo-Mexican food is a guilty pleasure that can be consumed responsibly in your own home and in extreme moderation. The most potent of them is Doritos brand chips made by Frito-Lay
The latest crunchy drug to hit the street is called Salsa Doritos.
I like salsa and I like Doritos.
Despite what they are called it they do not taste like salsa and Doritos. But it is not that bad actually. Orange Soda and Grape Soda do not actually taste like the fruit they are supposed to represent but they have their distinct charm. Salsa Doritos are like that.
They have a little heat and spicy tang to it and it goes well with the saltiness of the chip. I have to remark how all the chips are manufactured with rounded edges so to avoid a lawsuit of some one putting out their eye with a chip.
Corporate America is good at a few things. Finding things from another culture and bastardizing them into products for mass consumption that have little resemblance to the original source. Salsa Doritos are like that. They are the crunchy, salty, tangy goodness of America.

I'm fond of El Sabroso salsitas chips from Snak King, also the cinammon and sugar variety.
don't miss the flash animation of the chip bag dancing around.

"Bad Gringo-Mexican food" is such a temptation. I don't think I could touch those Salsa Doritos after my Cool Ranch Incident of 1998.
No, no, I just don't want to talk about it.

uhhh actually they aren't that new, they've been around quite a long time. ya know..FYI and oh yeah jake we just took amanda to the airport and you might wanna go SUPER early cause the lines are long and security is obscene. we got there at 5 and her flight left at 7 when we left her she hadn't even gone through the first security check point. so yeah... give yourself plenty of time. :)

mmmm they are yummy. I do love Doritos (hubby and I argue over which flavor is the original flavor). My favorite is the Ranchero though - I just love that tangy chili powder stuff on the chips. If you ever end up in Dallas I'll take you to some of the best authentic Mexican restraunts here. Hell if I vacation in Seattle I'll make you some authentic Mexican food (even homemade tortillas!)

oh! since Anita mentioned snakking, they make the best "guacamole" chips...taste similar to doritos, but are better in my estimation...:)

What is cute about that story? The campgrounds were in the bears natural habitat and he started eating the food that the campers had so the park rangers killed the bear. That is not the bears fault and it was his neighborhood. That is sad.
