Review : River City Ransom EX for Gameboy Advance

RCR GBAI just have to write about my new favorite freaking Gameboy Advance waste of time. River City Ransom EX is about the most fun that you can possibly have with a Gameboy Advance or a Gameboy Player. This is a remake of the cult 8-bit NES game that featured super deformed graphics, lightning fast extremely violent cartoon gameplay, RPG elements, two player cooperative ass kicking, eating at the strip mall and beating hundreds of cartoon thugs with in an inch of their lives with a trash can. This game is all about two super deformed anime bad asses beating wave after wave of Japanese high school drop out thugs into the ground with fast and furious martial arts.

This is a remake of the classic game with some special enhancements. The old password system is gone in favor of a battery but the non standard method of saving your data can be a bit of a pain to figure out. The game also supports a pretty good AI to your martial arts pal so even if you are playing alone it delivers a similar experience of the two player simultaneous action of the old NES game. I long for the day that BBQ gets a copy of this game so we will be able to play through it via a link cable. Alas you need two copies of the game to use the GBA link cable just like Double Dragon Advance. There are some new moves and nice and slick GBA graphics and animation. Just go and download some videos of the gameplay and see what I am yammering about.

I have been waiting for them to make this game for the last fifteen years. I love the dry humor and the sarcastic dialog that accompanies your conversations with the throng of bad guys as you kick their asses. In cast you did not notice I love the original game so freaking much that I based my icon of the authors on the original sprites. The gameplay is simple to learn but it just does not get old no matter how many dim-witted guys you pummel with the garbage can.

BARF!

BTW I am now drawing my comic and it will premiere on Monday July 5th.

Basically everybody I know that's played the original RCR thinks it's awesome, so I'll have to rent this. It sounds pretty fun.

Meh. RCR EX is pretty cool, but I still get a little depressed thinking about what might have been:
