Review : Rampage Total Destruction for Gamecube

rampagetotalDestruction.jpgLast weekend I spent a very deserving 20 bucks on Rampage : Total Destruction for Gamecube. This is a new 3d version of the old skool Midway arcade game. It is out on PS2, and Gamecube.

The is a remake of the classic game where you play a giant monster and you need to smash down buildings to demolish entire cities while fighting the military that is trying to stop you from doing just that. This is an action game with elements of a puzzle game from moving from building to building and finding out the most efficient method of smashing buildings while fighting the army. This is one of those games that you can learn in a five minutes and keep you entertained for six hours straight. The campaign mode sports up to two players at once but other multiplayer modes can be a four person party game.

There are 30 unlockable monsters and once a city is smashed you can go back and smash it again to unlock more power-ups and moves.

This has the classic arcade version of Rampage as an extra feature as well as Rampage : World Tour the stop-motion animated arcade and PSOne game.

The graphics are brilliant and you can move around a building and climb on the front of the building. All the animation is fluid and this is one of the better looking Gamecube games. The graphics are semi-cartoony but things smash up real nice like. It is a blast to stop and eat the people on the street and hear them cry out before they get munched.

The sound are awesome and semi-sarcastic. I don't have much to say about the music since I listened to the 80's hair metal band station on Sirius Radio the entire time I played it this week. There is just something so right about smashing a big cartoonish city with a giant monster while listening to Quiet Riot.

To conclude this is a brilliant addition to gamers that enjoyed playing Rampage before. It is rated E 10+ and there is nothing to scary or violent. Controlling giant monsters as they smash a city is one of the simplest yet totally enjoyable video game experiences. This one of the better remaining Gamecube games before the Wii comes out and I prefer Gamecube games because I know I can pop them in my Wii when I get it this fall. This is a brilliant interpretation of a classic game with modern graphics that should be savored by modern gamers. This is a damn fine American game that I think should be well received around the world.

I think the monsters were stop motion animated but I am not 100% sure. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rampage_World_Tour
