Review : Philips HP250 Full-Size TV Headphones with 19.5-Foot Cable
I am still blown away by the amount of people that will spend a lot of money on an iPod and then still use the cheap ass white headphones that Apple ships with them. It is really worth while to invest in a decent pair of headphones when you consider that these are the direct interface between what you want to listen to and your music or game.
When I moved into share the a house with my girlfriend I wanted to set up my own gaming coffee table of coolness upstairs and out of earshot of her cheesy reality TV shows and mind numbingly similar cop mystery shows. So I got a decent pair of headphones designed specifically to be used with a TV. I got a Philips HP250 Full-Size TV Headphones with 19.5-Foot Cable . These bad boys were under thirty bucks and they sound awesome.
They also feel awesome and you can watch an entire movie or gaming session without discomfort. These are big as old school headphones like you used to see on Hi-fi stereo system in the 70s. There is a nice big cushy fabric pad ring on each ear and it does not give you the pinching effects of ear bud phones. It sounds like two really good speakers on each side of your head Princess Leia style. Since they lay nice on your head it is totally possible to lay back and kick it while not disturbing the Perry Mason DVD marathon session going on downstairs. The cord is freakishly long It is a whole 19.5 feet long and it is possible to get up and go get a beer without taking off the phones if you have a compatible furniture layout. There is also a nice volume control knob about arm length from the phones so you can crank it up and down without having to dig out the remote control from the cushions.
I had to get it because of when I was playing Medal of Honor Allied Assault from the D-Day level and she found the carnage and thumping of the german guns very disturbing. These are not cutting edge super expensive headphones for pro-level audiophiles but it is a nice middle ground. These put you in the zone and keep you there. These are not meant to go out on the town with a MP3 player because of the freakishly long cord but they kick much ass for when you get back to your pad.
