Review : Pelican AfterGlow Controller for Gamecube

A couple weeks ago I was at my local Blockbuster and I noticed that they had these transparent AfterGlow Controllers for Gamecube by Pelican on sale. They were only ten bucks and I could use another standard size Gamecube controller.

This is a standard size third party Gamecube controller but instead of using a solid plastic they made it out of transparent plastic and got this thin plastic neon tubing and ran it around the perimeter of the unit. The light is powered by the Nintendo Gamecube power that is sends the controllers to run the rumble motors. This has fine rumble and all the good things that you would expect from a Gamecube controller but it looks like a prop from Tron It looks like a cheesy PC mod kit installed into a videogame controller. The digital d-pad is feels like a real old school Nintendo pad and the analog triggers on the top work great and feel responsive. There is a Turbo button opposite the Z button on the top of the unit. This is a much better option than some lame macro command button that you would trigger at inopportune times. The light it on whenever the Gamecube is on but you only notice it in the dark and boy does it look cool. The C-stick is flatter and thicker than the Nintendo design. It did warn against using it with a Gamecube controller that has fan in it due to the extra drain on the power supply.

If you are looking for another Gamecube controller for some multiplayer mayhem then this would be a great choice or you could wrap it around your neck, put on a stupid hat, striped shirt and go to a costume party as a raver. I know this is very stupid but it just feels cool and looks neat in the dark. I know that sound idiotic but it is fun and that is the entire point in playing videogames.

Dude does that controller feel like you're holding something? Because it looks like I'm lookin' at something that looks dope. Yo but it's not as phat as the Xbox controller dawg!

eeeeeeeeeeeeks.

maybe it's not that bad as a controller, but the illuminated picture scares me a little bit.
