Review: Nintnedo GameCube Controller
I have been meaning to write this review for quite some time.
Or How I stopped worrying and I learned to love the Nintendo GameCube controller.
The Nintendo GameCube controller is well. Different. It looks like a combination preschool toy or a sex toy for the ladies. And feature some weirdly shaped buttons. You can't really play street fighter on it and for that it looses points but it excels at playing different kinds of games.
The theory is that you should have the most important button on the largest one "Green A" the next important one on the "red B" and the extra one "the little X and Y". The top triggers are where the design really shines. They have a really good spring and they snap and lock when you press them all the way down. The PS2 DualShock2 controller buttons are pressure sensitive but there is nowhere the range of motion that the Gamecube controller sports.
Purists can take refuge that there are several Playstation to GameCube controller adaptors on the market so if this controller is not for you any PS controller can be used on the Gamecube. My only real beef is that I didn't like the Z button on the top right on the unit was a little weird to use. It is in credible how influential the Sega Dreamcast controller was and how much flack it got back in 1999 but now all the game systems are using it for inspiration. I like the GameCube controller but I got over the fact that it is not really built to play Street Fighter 2 type games. But wow can it play Mario Sunshine and Crazy Taxi.
