Review : NeoGeo Pad 2 for Playstation2
Last week I went to Seattle and stopped by the Pink Godzilla Games store in the Seattle International Distict. The thing that caught my eye that day was the NeoGeo Pad 2 for Playstation 2. This is a PS2 game pad that is stylized around the NeoGeo gamepad for the NeoGeo home system and the NeoGeo CD system.
Currently SNK Playmore Japan is celibrating the 10th anneversary of the King of Figthers and they released this gamepadwith a special edition of King of Fighters 94 for PS2. Since then they sold it seperatly from the game and Pink Godzilla had ir for just 33 bucks. They have it listed on their website and I recommend them but there are other importers .
Probably the coolest thing about this gamepad is the d-pad is a mini joystick that feels like the NeoGeo Pocket conroller. It has a good snap and kicks much ass at 2d fighting games. Super moves are a blast with the definate snap and high speed moves that you can crank out with this pad. Unlinke the origional NeoGeo pad there are six buttons on the front of the controller and L2 and R2 buttons on the top of the controller. There is no analog sticks so you can't play Katamari Damacy but that is now what it is about.

This thing rocks at 2D fighting games for the PS2 and PSOne. I played me some King Of Fighters 2004, KOF 2003, Street Fighter Anniversary and Guilty Gear X2 on the PS2 then I popped in Pocket Fighter and Street Fighter Alpha 3 for the PSOne into my wee slim PSTwo. NeoGeo knows their freaking fighting games and this thing delivers the NeoGeo goodness in large amounts. There is also no rumble and I was slightly disappointed about that. If they can put rumble vibrators in the RetroCon they could have squeezed it in this one.
It is a shame that SNK Playmore USA does not sell this. If you are all about your 2d fighting games then this would defiantly be worth ordering from an import store. I will probably never own a NeoGeo home system but now I know that I sort of have one of the game pad!

Damn, that's really cool - need to pick one up now. Oh, I also forgot to comment when you posted that you picked up Chou Jikuu Yousai Macross for the Famicom that you might also want to keep a lookout for Macross - Scrambled Valkyrie for the Super Famicom, pure 2D shmup goodness!
