Review : Megaman Anniversary Collection for Gamecube and PS2
I can't believe I have not written a review of Megaman Anniversary Collection for Gamecube and PS2. Check this out cats and kittens for a pittance of thirty bucks you can walk away with the Megaman anniversary Collection that contains Megaman 1-8 and the two Megaman arcade games that were never released in the US.
I freaking love Megaman games and there is a good reason why there has been so many sequels over the past fifteen years. Megaman combined really tight level design, great cartoon graphics, insane 2-d platform with boss fights and power-ups that were second to none.
Megaman 1-6 were for the 8-Bit Nintendo NES but each game would push the latest graphic chip and memory upgrade and Capcom would rival the animation and gameplay that Konami and other masters of the NES could produce. I still have all of these on NES cartridge but then I am a game freak.
Megaman 7 was on the 16-bit Super NES but since it came out in the end stages of the SNES market share it was not appreciated by a wide audience.
Megaman 8 was a 32-bit Sony Playstation and Sega Saturn game and it was lush and full of 32-bit colors. BBQ reports that they based it on the Playstation version instead of the superior Sega Saturn version for this collection.
The two Megaman Power Battle arcade games were based on similar arcade hardware as Street Fighter 2 and is a blast to play. But the arcade games are locked and are the rewards for beating all the first eight Megaman games in the collection.
The games take advantage of the Gamecube and PS2 memory cards and you don't have to mess with writing down passwords and more (unless you like that sort of thing). There are a bunch of art, music and other goodies that can be unlocked on the disk. The PS2 version has the option to play remixed music and it has the is an episode of the super lame made for US TV Megaman cartoon show as an unlockable item. Some of the painfully slow dialog text has been changed in Megaman 2... thank God. I don't like it in this version of Megaman 1 how they greatly reduced the effect of the pause button exploit when fighting bosses. This makes it much harder that it was back in the 80s.
The control remains classic Megaman but there are a few tweaks. There is a rapid fire button and you can shuttle between captured super powers. BBQ does not like Gamecube button layout how B is Jump and A is fire. So he got the PS2 version while I am all Gamecube baby
I would love to see Capcom follow this up with the Megaman X games collected as well as other gems from their past game library. Sure Megaman is not as good as Castlevania but then again what is? This is a heck of a deal and it is freaking perfect for those annoying little kids who don't remember late 80s era Nintendo action. I still love the blue bomber and I hope that Capcom gives us a 2-D Megaman 9 sometime soon.

I doubt it. Capcom would not make a Megaman nine. Maybe a 3-d but I think the 2-D thing is out the window. I would like to see it though.

I love Megaman, and would love to have this collection. Too bad it's not on Xbox though.

I was surprised this collection didn't include Megaman & Bass, which is essentially Megaman 9. It was on SNES originally but used graphics and characters from Megaman 8. I guess you need a Gameboy Advance if you want to play that.

Hey Jake, anyone ever tell you that you spend too much time and money enriching videogame makers and DVD producers?

Ah, but Megaman Power Battle was released in the US. I've played it in a US arcade (and outside of those super mega multi game changers, too).
