Review : Madcatz 360 Game Pad Pro for Xbox 360

madcatz360controller.jpgBesides using the wireless Xbox 360 controller that came with my 360 I've been using a Madcatz 360 Game Pad Pro and it's pretty tops.

It's a pretty reasonably priced game pad at $30 and since it uses a USB cable instead of a wireless interface it is pretty thin and light. Apparently Microsoft will not let any third party manufacturers make wireless controllers for the Xbox 360 and their wireless controllers plus a play-and-charge battery pack kit will set you back $70 total so a $30 corded gamepad looks quite affordable in comparison.

There are some nice rubber grips and the companies experience making controllers really shows in this one. The buttons are nice and responsive and the d-pad is more pronounced and responsive than the Microsoft 360 pad. The analog sticks are nice and accurate and the analog trigger buttons on the top are really thin and comfortable. Retro arcade games really benefit from the more pronounced d-pad. Overall this is an extremely nice ergonomic gamepad and it is a good alternative to shelling out $70 for another controller for your Xbox 360.

How's the general feel of the controller? My only problem with third-party peripherals is that pads tend to just not feel right- it's a hard balance to get right.

It feels pretty good I like it better than the original Microsoft pad for retro arcade games like Street Fighter 2 and Castlevania SOTN. I usually really like MadCatz controllers and they are about the best brand of third party accessories.
