Review : Jeopardy 2003 for PS2

Jeopardy for PS2My lovely girlfriend Kymberly is not quite a hard core gamer so that sort of limits the selection of videogames that we can play against each other. We love to play Wario Ware, Inc for Gamecube and Pac-Man Vs. for Gamecube but we both like to try to out do each other when watching the TV game show Jeopardy. She does not have cable. When I was browsing through a local electronics store I came across a copy of Jeopardy 2003 for Playstation 2 for twenty bucks.

Jeopardy has always been the thinking person's TV quiz show and this is a prefect play along interactive version of the game. The game features lots of footage and audio of the man himself Alex Trebek Of course this is the new sans-mustache Trebek and it just is not the same. The game is a series of trivia questions and the response have to be in the form of a question. There are no video of the players and there is no idle chat in the game. But the visuals, questions and music are pure Merv Griffin magic.

Since there are multiple players this does not support a Playstation2 USB keyboard and it is a shame. It does support the Multitap for up to three players but the responses are typed out via an on-screen keypad. Once you enter four letters it a list of possible responses is listed and you can select your response without having to type it all out. This is not a fool proof method since there were a few questions that I knew how to say but could not spell to save the life of me. The one that got me is Pythagoras.

Alex Trebek does no voice any of the responses but there are thousands of questions in this DVD. 5200 questions actually.

Kymberly will often accuse me of cheating since my ninja like reflexes have been honed by years of hard core videogame play. I do rule with my mad buzz in reflexes but I must tip my hat to her diverse and limitless Jeopardy trivia skills. It is a good videogame based on the classic TV show. If you do not like the show then you will not like the game. If you do like the show then: Do du do do du do du do du do da dat da da de de na!
