Review : Harry Potter : Quidditch World Cup for Gamecube
Last Friday there was a buy two used game get one free sale at my local GameStop so I went home with two other Gamecube games and a free copy of Harry Potter : Quidditch World Cup for Gamecube. They also cranked out a version of this game on PC, PS2 and Xbox but I am all about my Gamecube.
I know how stupid this game sound but it is actually pretty fun. For those of you who do not know what Quidditch is it is sort of like a flying game of hockey and with magic balls and rugby rules that Harry Potter and pals play at school. Electronic Arts has been milking the rights of the Harry Potter movies to make games based with the Harry Potter name. It is sort of like printing money but this is a well made game. EA is universally regarded as the best sport game developer in the world and they put together a simple to play execution of a very complex and visually hectic imaginary game. There have been Quidditch sequences in the previous Harry Potter videogames but this is a fleshed out developed game of the fantasy sport.
In the game you play at Hogwarts at the in game tutorial. When you finish the tutorial sequence you go on to watch the pro-league Quidditch World Cup and you then pick a world team and play through a season of Quidditch. As you start to win you unlock collectible wizard cards that give your team special moves and power ups.
The graphics are a blast. The environments and lighting is a beute and it is a wonderful execution of the game. The game publishers could have done this game on the cheap and still made a wad of money but EA once again bucks the curse of licensed videogames. You can get this game for about twenty bucks and it is a fun light hearted game that delivers hectic and fast fun gameplay.

I bought the XBOX version a couple of days ago. It dropped down to 19.99 new and I figured why not? But I am yet to open and play it. Maybe I should.
