Review : Gamestop HD System Selector
A couple months ago I decided to get component cables for my PS2 and original Xbox so that they along with my Wii, Xbox 360 and DVD player would use a component connection on my HDTV. This would require a new AV Switcher box so since I was already at Gamestop buying the component cables for the PS2 and Xbox I got an Gamestop brand HD System Selector. That was a bad choice.
The over all design looks good. It came with decent cables and the back is loaded with three component inputs and an regular AV/ S-Video input in the front. There is also an ethernet switch on it so if you don't have a router you could use it to share a single net connection. There are four clicky buttons on the top and it sort of shows up in the front. The device is un-powered and it is flat enough to stack something like another switch box on top of it.
I was optimistic and thought I had made a good choice... however soon I began to regret my decision.
The unit fails the all important "Does it actually work and do what it should test".
The big problem is that the audio will randomly cut out and cut back in one channel. It seams like there is a short in the audio output connection. I tried different wires and tried re-wiring it a half dozen times and today I was fed up with it and got myself a new switch-box to replace it. I am pretty sure that I was pressing the button switch hard enough and jiggling the wires would sometime bring temporary relief.
I didn't take it back or try to exchange it since they would probably want to give me another one of the exact same model and I sort of feel that my problems might have been more from a cheap design than a defective unit. Ironically I used the same cables that came with this unit with my new HD System Selector and it works perfectly so the problem had to be with the actual unit itself.
This thing is pretty much worthless and I recommend staying away from them. If your going to make the investment into getting an HDTV and HD/Component game systems you might and well not skimp out and get a cheap Gamestop brand HD System Selector. I still like to buy my used games there but I think I wasted my money and got a lot of frustration out of this piece of plastic. I am debating giving it to Goodwill or just tossing it. It's a crying shame.

I've had the same unit for months with no issues at all other than the nameplates are for last-gen systems.
I think you just got a bum unit. You should try to exchange it.

If you're still within 90 days of purchase, why don't you take it back and ask for your money back?

I ran into a friend yesterday and he had that exact same unit at his house, and said he never had any problems with it. Take it back! Or I give you spinning piledriver!
