Review : Finding Nemo

Finding Nemo PosterFriday night I saw the fifth Pixar animation studios movie Finding Nemo. Pixar just keeps getting better with practice. They started off as a 3d animation studio back in the early 80s before Steve Jobs and John Lasseter lead them to where they are today.

This movie is distributed by Disney but all of the creative control was in the hands of Pixar. Pixar has been making better movies than Disney proper. If you look at the lack of originality in the last batch of Disney movies Treasure Planet, Lilo and Stitch, The Emperors New Groove ect ect they don't quite seem on the ball but you compare them to the last five Pixar movies and you realize that the reason why Pixar films are so good. It is because they are their own company with their own soul and not just a CGI division of Disney.

The great thing is how this movie was made by a cast of hundreds all on computers is not really and issue now that you need two hands to count the CGI movies. Pixar has the best technology but that is not important because they have teams of the best people in every part of the production. The biggest asset of the company is the blood sweat and tears of the people who make up Pixar not a computer program and renderfarm.

Finding Nemo is set in the oceans off the southern coast of Australia and is the story of a over bearing single parent clown fish trying to rescue his only son from a divers net. His wife and other children are killed early in the movie. It starts off with a "Bambi's mom" scene or a " Dead Lion King" scene for all you brats who have never seen Bambi. He meets up with a blue female fish who is quite a air head but help him out on his journey.

There is a group of sharks who are trying to go vegan and it is a funny parody of Alcoholics Anonymous. I would not be surprised to hear that AA or other support groups are not to happy to be poked fun of at in a kids movie.

There is a deep sea trench monster, a ride with sea turtles, and just about every danger you can think of in the sea.

Nemo is adjusting to being trapped in a fish tank in a dentists office in Sidney with a group of captive fish who are obsessed with escaping. He needs to hurry because he is about to be given to the dentist's braces clad niece who is know as a pet fish killer.

Compare this with Toy Story and this is the second dangerous kid with braces in Pixar movies not to forget that this is the second single parent family in a Pixar movie.

I missed the trailers so I missed the teaser trailer for the next Pixar movie The Incredibles.

The visuals and animation is breath taking and I am having a hard time writing about it and doing it justice. You have to see the movie for yourself and you should not under any circumstances wait to see this on video.

Finding Nemo is full of a lot of action for a kids movie and it was such a nice change from the formulaic Disney tripe that we have been getting as of late. Go see it with the kids and even if you don't have any kids go see it.

It is a movie that makes me proud to be a 3d animator! ( I am if you did not know that )

i'm totally excited for this movie, my roomie has been teasing me relentlessly for weeks. i just can't help it being a hopeless disney head, even though i know its the dark corporation and all (stop trying to ruin it for me jake, it hasn't worked yet) but kudos to pixar, they do good work.

yeah, i can't wait to see it.

i didn't know you were a 3d animator. i took a few classes in college and played around with 3d studio max and lightwave ... i wish i had kept up with it.

I think that if Disney actually made a good movie then he would enjoy it....unfortunately that hasn't been the case as of late. He has a serious love of Apple and Steve Jobs though which I havent been able to figure out yet but I think I will go see this one. If the other films pixar has produced are any indication....this should rock. You know what movie was great but got its ass kicked at the box office? Treasure planet.

The last 4 Pixar Movies have made more than the last 4 Disney Movies combined.

Yes. We should fear Steve Jobs.

this is completly off the subject. but i just wanted to let everyone know that i found a pic of the ornignal sonyplaystation developed for the snes! http://www.vidgame.net/NINTENDO/SFAMICOM.htm right there in all its glory!

I happen to love Lilo & Stitch and The Emporer's New Groove. Probably two of my favorite Disney movies, actually.

I thought Finding Nemo was cute. Not as funny as I expected it to be. Hopefully the children who are watching this movie will catch some of the underlying lessons that can be taught by watching it.

I took my 2 kids to Find Nemo this weekend. OMG! What a treat for the eyes. This movie is so great to look at. The colors are amazing. Though, I have to say, I don't get why most Disney/Disney related movies demonstrate such ill feelings towards moms. What's up with that? Aside from that, I was really pleased with this one. Unlike many of the recent "children's" movies, there were no inappropriate connotations or anything. Two big thumbs up from a mom!! And Treasure Planet rocked!!

Please!!!!!!!!! I need the picture of the dentists niece in "Finding Nemo" there is none on internet. If any of you find it, please write to me the address. Thanks a lot
