Review : BC Hothouse Tomatoes

Let me give a shout out about BC Hothouse Tomatoes. My word these are the the tomatoes of the gods!

My mother grows her own tomatoes in her garden so we would have fresh, juicy flavorful tomatoes that are robust in flavor and delicate to the touch. Then I was exposed the the balls of red genetically modified cardboard that passes for tomatoes at some super markets. They are inedible in my mind and they do a great disservice to the fruit.

BC Hothouse Tomatoes are divine. They are grown indoors in British Columbia Canada and are available in most good supermarkets in the Pacific northwestern US. They are rich, tasty and good raw with just a bit of balsamic vinegar and salt. I like to cook with fresh vegetables and these are a staple.

If you are shopping for fruit and veggies I implore you to give them a shot. They are hard to consider they are the same food as the balls of red cardboard that gets passed off for tomatoes.

Also the name BC Hothouse sounds like BC HotBox but that is something totally different.

mmmm... I love fresh tomatoes. Hothouse tomatoes are second only to fresh from the garden.

Would your mom adopt me? Fresh tomatoes and she makes apple pie! She is the perfect mom! ;o)

I've been trying to cut down on meat lately. So I've taken to eating more vegetables. Yes, tomatoes don't taste that good unless you put like peper on them.

I would just like to say that your articles have been pretty well-written lately. Good job :)

Jake- You're so right. They are the bomb! I make a viniagrette that has onions, olive oil, white vinegar and tomatoes and BC Hothouse makes it that much better. See Petey- not everything in Canada is bad.

not everything in kkkanada is bad but there is an underlying creepyness about kkkanada that is so disturbing that it makes me want to eat HAM!!!

Just promise me you'll never put that and pineapple on your pizza. In the name of all that is holy, it's just wrong!!!

Tomatoes are the fruit of Satan. And as we all know.. Satan lives in Sasakatchewan. So there.. All evil originates in Canada.

Well all evil may originate in KKKanada but its icy tentacles reach the world wide....including into my basement where evil things are happening as we speak**burp**
What a lot of people dont realize is that total and complete world takeover by the giant pulsating brain that i have manufactured (to milspec standards) is actually a lot of work especially when you are trying to hide the bodies and you get those DAMN LEAKY TRASH BAGS!

Posted by: pete at June 8, 2003 2:07 PM

As someone who works with mil-specs all the time, let me just tell you that the industry is moving towards commercial-off-the-shelf material. Basically, for your purposes, this means that when you break into the Science Dept. at the University you CAN grab the brain donated by "Abby Normal." Who needs the added stress of searching for one marked "PhD"?

Posted by: puunum at June 8, 2003 8:55 PM

WHOA! i never thought of that....i guess there is someone out there who likes me after all. the next time i break into the high security wing i will bring a blowtorch to do the cutting into the "sphere of security" because that is where they keep the "normals".

Posted by: pete at June 8, 2003 10:20 PM

My older sister used to want to name her first daughter "Abby Normal", thank god she went with Shaylyn Marie....

If you like the BC Hothouse tomatoes you should try Village Farms. Grown right here in the Great U.S.A. in West Texas. GREAT tasting tomatoes!!!

Well if I ever see them here in Washington State I will check them out. This weekend i am going to stock up on Tomatoes that my mom grew in her garden. BC is actually much closer to Seattle in location and culture than Texas. Also I am not optimistic about the lack of Texan environmental regulation.
