Really Dumb Question Router Question
This may be a really dumb question but I just thought I would ask. I am trying to decide between a NetGear, LinkSys and Microsoft brand Cable/DSL Router and I need to make sure it works with Xbox live. So the approved routers are listed here.
The Microsoft router is the cheapest but it does not list Unix compatibility but then again it is a MS product. So will it work with my Linux box even though it is not a listed OS? I can still use Windows 2k to configure it.

Jake....buy the netgear router. Why risk it? You have some money saved so splurge the 89.00 on one that you know will work. Netgear routers are good anyway so buy something that will be reliable

I've got the Lynksys WiFi router, haven't had any problems with it, and didn't even have to tweak any settings to get online.
It was $10 cheaper then the Netgear router and had dual antennea (whereas the Netgear only had one)
But none of that matters to you, you're not looking for wireless.

I've been using the NetGear RP614 with no problems. It's a 4-port, easily configurable, soap-dish shaped router going for $80 on the CompUSA site. I think there's an instant online rebate going on now where you can score $15 off.

I'd say go with a D-Link router. They're dirt cheap and they have lots of features too.... looks like XOBX Live supports them. I've seen them at Best Buy for $30. Pretty damn cheap. I know there was a good review of a bunch of routers on some tech site... something hardware... can't remember... bad brain! Bad!

I went with a Linksys router because it was on sale and I read a good review of them not to mention they are tested for Xbox live. I didn't go with wireless because I didn't see the point given the layout of my apartment. Now If I had a laptop or a house I would be all over Wireless and the next generation of videogame hardware will probably be WiFi enabled
