Now onto Bungie/Microsoft News:

Seattle PI
Microsoft lets Bungie go, but holds tight to 'Halo'
The split had been the subject of rumors all week. It started with a post by a Seattle P-I reader, Jacob Metcalf, who blogs about video games on the newspaper's Web site and learned of the impending split from a friend close to someone inside Bungie.

Rumors of the split originally showed up at the small gaming site 8bitjoystick, with some major consumer gaming websites scoffing at the widespread coverage and even the idea of the admittedly unsubstantiated rumor. However, the rumor began to look increasingly possible as Microsoft avoided completely discounting the possibility of a split.

Bungie Discusses Leaving Microsoft
1UP: What was the reaction internally when the rumor appeared online? You guys had to laugh a little, especially given how many people dismissed it as crazy talk.
Jarrard: Yes, it was a little amusing to see the various reactions online, mostly the people who were absolutely certain it was completely unfathomable and anyone who thought so was a fool. Ha. It was also a little nerve wracking though, since we were still working with Microsoft and neither of us was quite ready to publicly say anything.
1UP: Did the rumor's traction end up pushing up the actual "officialness" of the deal?
Jarrard: No it did not. The original timing for the announcement was always going to be right after Halo 3 was out the door so everything worked out according to plan.

And this last story hits little close to home for is about bloggers like me.

Bloggers to Gain Protection Through Free Flow of Information Act
The blurred distinction between journalist and blogger received further confusion during a U.S. Senate committee on Thursday. Representatives supported an amended version of the "Free Flow of Information Act" by a margin of fifteen to two. With a focus on "reporter's privilege," the bill could potentially extend bloggers the right to protect confidential source information. The bill still does not explicitly define blogging as a distinct industry, but instead lumps the practice into an ambiguous category of professionals who engage in "the regular gathering, preparing, collecting, photographing, recording, writing, editing, or publishing or news."

This concludes a week of crazy Bungie/Microsoft news.

We will be returning to your regularly scheduled nerdy irrelevant programming shortly.
