I must be slipping in my old age. The Promoguy has been debating getting a Gameboy Advance and I have been trying to convince him that it is a sure fire bet that it will not be replaced until say 2005/2006. But then he emailed me today about how Nintendo just had a press conference to announce a new version of the Gameboy Advance called the Game Boy Advance SP.
This do hickey will not be replacing the normal GBA but will supplement it and offer an alternative to those who have been bitching out the un-lit screen . It will be about a hundred bucks so it is a little bit more than a normal GBA bit it should be worth it. It looks like they took a hint from the third party GBA light hacks and thought it would be cheaper to light the existing screen rather than go with a back lit one. This is a good idea and you can turn the light off to conserve battery life. Also they got rid of the AA batteries and included a rechargeable internal battery and an AC adapter much like my Palm PDA. Also this sucker folds up like a notebook and is a smaller than a pack of smokes. It actually looks a lot like the old Nintendo Game and Watch from the early 80s.
The Gameboy Advance is now outselling the PlayStation 2 in Japan. The rate that they are selling reminds one of the 8bit glory days on Nintendo when they had 97% of the US video game market.
So in march I should have a tough time deciding to get a GameCube Gameboy Player or a GameBoy Advance SP.
Now if they will translate the Domo Kun GBA game that would be perfect.

screw the extra $$, buy yourself an afterburner and be done with it.
Missy I can’t wrap a present with out forking it up. Opening up a game system and using a soldering iron should be the last thing that I should ever do.
That thing looks like a portable DVD player.
What's AfterBurner?
BTW, have you tried "Liberty" its a Gameboy emulator for the Palm OS.
Notice one little thing about the GBA SP? The shoulder buttons look to be even worse than the ones on the current GBA. They're like flat and inset onto the upper bottom curves of the GBA SP. I think we have a hidden design problem on our hands. Afterburner kits aren't as difficult to install as many say.
