New 8-Bit Publishing Engine and a Single Banner Ad
This weekend I am going to stop procrastinating and upgrade the version of Movable Type that has been powering this web site to the latest and greatest version. I have been running MT 2.6.6 versions for way too long and it is not fun and getting rather pathetic. I also want to get rid of the old templates and move to the newer MT 3.X style templates. The CSS based visual design of the site might be a little bland after I make the switch but I want to tweak the MT 3 CSS sheets so it follows the same design look as what I currently have going on.
I am also going to be signing up for Google Adsence and will be placing a single horizontal banner ad at the top of each page. There will be no flash animations, no java applets, no pop up ads, no pop under ads, no spyware, no ads in the middle of the screen and no punch the monkey ads, just a simple banner ad at the top of each page and feel free to block them out if you see fit. I just have been getting a sweet deal from my hosting ISP where they have been under billing me for the bandwidth that this site uses each month and it would be nice to generate a small rainy day fund so that this site could pay for it's own bandwidth costs. I am not out to get rich or quit my day job but I would like the ability for this site to be financially self-sufficient.
I will not be deleting any older posts, older comments, or change the URL of any of the content on this site.
I will probably be more motivated to produce content on a more persistent basis if I make it a little more self published professional. I really like how this site is a combination of a self orientated journal and an actual online tech publication. It is a strange beast and that is the way I like it. I love the fact that I have several thousand daily readers (4738 average daily visits) and it is a strange and wonderfull thing to be contributing to this big insane internet thing halfway through the first decade of the 21th century.

Do people actually read those stupid Google Ads? I don't. Don't they give money per click? I'll be sure to click a few for ya.

Can't wait.

There's a new beta of MT out and you might want to wait and see how stable that is before upgrading. Also, the upgrade is definitely not painless. There are some gotchas that only show up after the upgrade, so if the beta fixes those it might be worth it to wait.
