Need PSP Badly!

Playstation Portable

If you come across a copy of the August 2004 issue of PSM Magazine with the DVD get it as soon as humanly possible.

You see this DVD contains footage of around 40 games currently in development for Sony's Playstation Portable that was shown at E3.

My God.. It is full of stars.

I was freaking floored by the power and shear polygonal chutzpahs that this wee handheld game system can crank out. I mean it looks GOOD. Much much better than I had expected and pretty damn close to the power of the PS2 games. My money is on that the PSP will cost around 300 bucks compared to the rumored price tag of 200 for the Nintendo DS but the additional power and wireless networking is going to be the big selling point for the PSP. I would rather hand out an extra hundred bucks for a handheld game system that can crank out near PS2 level graphics than the close to Nintendo 64 level 3d graphics delivered by the Nintendo DS. Nintendo is going to be in the game with the DS and the Gameboy Advance SP but until they come out with a Gameboy that can come close to the power of the PSP then Sony will start to eat away at the handheld market despite being more expensive for the system hardware.

The games that are blowing me away are Wipeout Pure, Ridge Racer PSP, Metal Gear Acid, Tony Hawk THUG 2 and DarkStalkers 3 PSP.

I am not sure if the subscription readers of PSM magazine are going to get the DVD or not but I am bringing over this bad boy to BBQ's place next time I hand him his ass at PS2. The video was taken from a hand held recording of the Sony Demo but it is still good enough to make the hair stand up on your arms.

oooh you're such a fanboy. ;-))

come on, it sure looks sexy but I have doubt that this will be the real design/price/release date/you name it.

300 bucks for this (including wireless, media playback etc. features) -> I M P O S S I B L E.

oh and maybe the solve the problem with battery life once and for all.

I will bet you that It will be 300 in the US. For good reasons. Sony has said that they are willing to loose money on the first generation of PSP hardware in order to have a successful launch. The original Playstation was 300, so was the PS2 so I doubt that the PSP will be more than 300.

PSM is reporting that the PSP will have between ten and four hours of gameplay depending on the Wifi Networking and disk use. That is much better than most laptops.

DS has wireless too, it has a nintendo local frequency and some flavor of 802.11. And the graphics it has are supposed to be actually closer to playstation according to the news reports I read while E3 was happening.

It seems that the grabbing factor between the systems is PSP's huge amount of games because of sony's open door policy to developers, although nintendo has said they were going to open up more for DS, and the fact it'll do movies and various other media things. DS has the two screens, touch screen and microphone going for it for a new experience in gaming. So it really comes down to the same reasons for the consoles, sony's huge amount of everything, or nintendo's brand of quirky gaming.

Personally, I think the PSP looks great with all the specs and everything, but there are no games currently announced that seem worth the $300 to me. I won't say I'll never get the PSP, because I know Square Enix will eventually make a Final Fantasy game for it the I'll have to have, but I'll definitely be waiting for the inevitable price drop a year after launch. As for the DS, I will be getting it the day it comes out along with Animal Crossing DS (if you haven't played Animal Crossing you cannot possibly understand how awesome it is) and Metroid Prime Hunters.

I love Animal Crossing actually.

I think Gizmodo said that they might delay the shipping of PSP as they don't think the developers will have the games ready on time.

Plus, that big screen is just beggin for a breakin. That is main fear, as well as it developing into a mutant form of the N-gauge. Sidetalkin is wack you, but the sheer size of the PSP really doens't make it 'portable'. Game boy was a hit as it was small and you could go where ever with it. PSP is big, needs protection and probably costs more than Paris Hilton for 10 minutes. But it's probably not gonna hog the camcorder...

The first Gameboy was a brick. It was huge with it's nice green and gray screen.

There is a significant number of games being developed and from what they showed at E3 I don't think there is going to be a shortage of quality games for the PSP.
