Mozilla One Tree Hill Ownz Da Web

Get FirefoxThere is a new version of Mozilla Firefox out. Version 0.9 is pretty damn good and it is only a stone's throw away from the super spiffy 1.0 release.

New features in Firefox 0.9 include:

  • Easy migration: Switching to Firefox has never been easier now that Firefox imports data like Favorites, history, settings, cookies and passwords from Internet Explorer. Firefox can also import settings from Mozilla 1.x, Netscape and Opera.
  • Smaller Download: Continuing efforts to make this the most efficient browser, the Windows version of Firefox is now only a 4.7 MB download, making downloading Firefox a breeze for dial-up and broadband users alike.
  • New Default Theme: A new default theme provides a bright new look for Windows and Linux users.
  • SmartUpdate: A new SmartUpdate feature notifies users of new versions of Firefox to ensure that the browser is always up to date.
  • Help: A new online help system makes this one powerful, friendly browser.
  • Extension/Theme Manager: New Extension and Theme Managers provide a convenient and secure way to manage and update the hundreds of add-ons that set Firefox apart from other browsers.

Mozilla Firefox also includes numerous bug fixes and incremental improvements, including faster page load speed.

However since they are updating the Extension architecture all existing plug-ins will have to be updated and they are de-activated when you upgrade to version 0.9. So no AdBlock for me until they make a new version. But this is the only time that we will have to do this. I hope.

Hello!

I have been exploring new blogs and find yours very appealing! Thank you for your efforts. I think we share similar ideas. Have you seen anywhere about the availbility of a home edition of TEMPEST... the very early 1980s game?

Jake, what a time I've had with 0.9. I couldn't get ANYTHING to work correctly. I installed, and of course, directories were mismatched from the previous version. So I uninstalled, deleted the old directories (remembering to save bookmarks and such)(, then tried again. Now, no extensions work. Got rid of old /chrome stuff. Install again and overwrite newer files with files from older install. Now, no forms submit.

Four time was a charm, and I like the browser. I just wish these Mozilla prodcuts would be easier to upgrade. Thunderbird screwed me too.

I'm digging 0.9. I was checking out the plugins page and there is a plugin that will allow old plugins to show up in the plugin manager and be activated. I haven't tried it out yet though.

0.9 is great and I can't wait until the final release of 1.0. I've already prepped one of the school labs I support for use with Firefox. I'm hoping it'll, along with some other measures, help curb the spyware problem in that room.

Also, I got the adblock extension working on both Firefox installations. I also installed one called Firesomething, changes the name of the browser from Firefox to various things. Right now I'm using Mozilla Watergoat.

Had a lot of problems with the new FireFox. It's incredibly difficult to configure simple things like where your profiles go. The end result was Firefox dumping several hundred megs of temp files onto my already crammed profile and crashing my machine. Bleah.
