Mini review : Super Monkey Ball for Gamecube
Sega knows how to make a game with monkeys. I mean just look at Samba De Amigo. It is a well know fact that Sega + Monkeys = FUN.
Super Monkey Ball is Sega's first Gamecube game and it based on a Japanese arcade game that used a giant roller ball to control.
In this game you control a monkey in a giant hamster ball and you have to roll it around a miniature golf like obstacle course floating in air while collecting bananas under a time limit. I know that sounds weird but it is simple addictive and fun. This game has a great learning curve that is simple to learn but later on will encourage the most hard core gamer to scream and throw a fit.
There is a weird marketing product placement deal with Dole fruit so there is a Dole sticker on every banana in the game. If you do well there are un-lockable mini games like Monkey billiards and Monkey Bowling that are almost more fun than the full game.
I am reminded of Marble Madness and Q-bert but Super Monkey Ball is like no other game.
