Mini Review : Jet Grind Radio for Gameboy Advance

Jet Grind Radio GBA ScreenshotI love Jet Grind Radio on the Sega Dreamcast and the sequel Jet Set Radio Future was one of the main reasons I got an Xbox. THQ has got the license from Sega and hired the same team Vicarious Visions who did Tony Hawk 2, 3 and 4 for Gameboy advance. So I just had to get Jet Grind Radio for Gameboy Advance.

The graphics are damn fine and I dig how the animation worked out in 2d animation as opposed to the mini-3d animation of Tony Hawk for GBA. Sadly this game suffers from some of the same graphics problems of Tony Hawk for GBA. The pseudo 3d isometric graphics makes it heard to figure out planes an objects above and below you. You could call it a depth perception problem.

It is surreal how well the funky Japanese techno tunes translated into Gameboy Advance chip based music. The music is almost perfect from the CD Dreamcast game complete with techno sample. The system is down as Strongbad would say.

The levels and story is inspired by the Dreamcast game but is different enough to warrant calling it a new game. I get goose bumps when I think of what the games on the PlayStation Portable and the Game Boy Next are going to be like. This is a very fun skating game but I would not really call it an extreme sports game.

cute, but i couldn't play it...well, i doubt i could play it...hehe

I also picked this up by virtue of the Dreamcast original. In the past I've thought that 2D games were always easier to understand and control than their 3D counterparts, though this game proved me wrong. The depth perception problem and the wonky control made me feel that Beat and his friends were skating drunk. The music and graphics are excellent, however -- I haven't given up on it yet.

i think jet set radio is a really PHAT!!!!!!!! GAME ESPECELLY BY X BOX BUT also really good by dreamcast aswell i think they should bring it out on ps2.
