Mini Review : Ikaruga for Gamcube

Ikaruga for GamecubeOh man if there is ever a game that you do not want to play when you are mentally fatigued like I am it is Ikaruga for Gamecube.

Ikaruga is an honest to got 2d game play space ship shooter game but with a massive twist. The graphics are lush lush 3d in a 3d environment and the screen is vertically formatted like they were in the arcade back in the day.

It has this weird polarity shield system where your shields can be switched between a light or dark setting. A light setting can protect you from the light fire from the enemy and the dark shield will protect you from the dark fire. You do more damage to the enemy's if you are the opposite color and you can absorb the energy of the enemy fire to charge in a plasma bursts. I know that sounds hard to describe but it is one of the most complex, difficult shooters ever made. I would rank this game up there with Gradius 3 and Thunder Force 3 for space ship shooter perfection. My cousin Gavin is phenomenal at this game and once you beat a level the challenge comes by finishing it with a better rating. There is a net ranking system where you can enter your name and get your score as a password and then enter that password on the official website on a pc and compare your rankings to Ikaruga players around the world.

They never made them like this in the old school days

We bought it so my cousin and i can both play with one game at the same time. It was SUPER COOL to us. I remember back when it's me and my older broter playing Battle City on our very old nintendo. My brother will always be the one rescuing me if i'm up the wall with 2-3 tanks abt to kill me and giving me power ups everytime i get killed. We would be up all night on a weekend until 4am or until when mother wakes up from the cursing and grunts we make every time we finish/survive a level. I think both Ikaruga and battle city came from Atari. If it did, i'm not surprised.

My cousin always wanted to beat my scores so whenever i'm not around he's at it. But he can only advance to the next chapter/level if i'm around (protecting his ikaruga - I always play Ginkei or player2 when with him), he-he-he. I was looking for a midi file of the game to turn it into my fone's ringtone but i ended up here instead. I just can't leave the page w/o telling my experience. I never regreted chosing this game against hitman2, but I'll get that one next time, eventually.

I guess that's it guys. sorry if i made wrong use of some terms.

Can't wait to get home again to play...LET'S KICK SOME HORAI BUTT! Maybe we'll upload our scores at the website next time.
