Just Because it is Free Does Not Mean it is "Cheap"

Tux the penguin.gifAlex Singelton asked in his blog? Does Open Source deliver?
And I would respond YES and how!.
I moved from Eudora on PC to Ximian Evolution on Linux except Ximian Evolution has none of the viral threat that Outlook has. I don't have any virus filters because when people say an email virus what they really mean is an MS only email virus. We use Outbreak at work but I can't talk about the details.

I think the perfect examples of where Open Source products can be better than commercial ones is Ximian Evolution vs OutBreak I mean Outlook, MAME vs MS Arcade, GIMP vs MS Photo Editor and MS Paint, SNES 9X vs (There no commercial SNES emulator), GNU Cash vs MS Money , Mozilla vs IE, Apache vs IIS, PHP vs ASP and Open Office VS MS Office.

I am not saying that the closed source products are inherently bad. But it is my point of view that the consumer can get a better experience from the open source alternative some of the time.

There! That is my nerdy rant for the day.

I got my Redhat8 CDs back and tried to install it.

It fubared on me, so I was able to delete the partitions and all is well again.

My suggestion is to not try to change the default partition settings. Just free up a lot of space on the HD and let the installer decide how to partition the HD. Are you trying to make a dual boot or a 100% linux box?
