I am now the announcer for the Slaughter County Roller Vixens

scrvLogo.jpgThis past Friday was the first big public event of my local women's flat track roller derby league that is currently in it's early stages. That would be Kitsap County's own Slaughter County Roller Vixens.

They had a skate party with really good music at Bremerton's Skate Town and Kymberly and I had a really good time. Now we have been fans of roller derby for a while and Kymberly has toyed around with the idea of trying out for the league. Now since it is an all women sport and since I am spastically uncoordinated I am not going to be use to anyone on the track. However I think it would be pretty cool to call the play by play and be the announcer MC for the events. The skate party on Friday really sealed the deal for me. So earlier today I used GarageBand.app on my iBook and made a demo of what having me being an Roller-derby announcer would sound like. I then burned it to a CD and went over to the Slaughter County Roller Vixens practice.

An MP3 of my announcer demo is here. It is 6.3 Megs.

I blew them away and they absolutely loved it. So now I am the announcer for the Slaughter County Roller Vixens. W00T!

I have to go to the practices and practice my announcing skillz. They are also looking for someone to DJ and I might have to lay down the rock tracks. I also have to learn all the rules and details of roller derby and I can't wait to announce our first game this August. I also have to learn how to use the sound equipment at the two skate tracks in Kitsap County.

The girls had some awesome ideas on how I should dress and I am debating my name being either Jamming Jake or Duke Patton. I was also planning on getting a 70's leisure suit or sports jacket and a fake big ass mustache.

My Flickr Photos from the Roller Derby league are here.

That's awesome. Do they sell shirts?

Yes they do Jarrah but not online yet. I'll ask Nerd Rage (her derby name) about if we can get a online store up. If not I'll have to mail one to you.

Yay I was mentioned! We will be doing an online store where we will be selling the shirts and whatever other merch that we sell. Come to practice tomorrow night if you can and we can talk nerdy about website techy stuff. 8-) I am told to stop falling on the ole knee for 2 months til it is healed, so I can't skate while the girls are doing the full contact stuff. :( Sad sad Nerd Rage.
