How to Cut The Spam
A tech networking group that I am a part of asked how one can reduce the amount of Spam email that one receives. This is what I can suggest of the top of my head.
1. Don't use an email account that is more prone to mass spamming like AOL, Comcast.net, MSN, Yahoo or Hotmail.com.
2. Use a email program that has a built in email filter like the free, secure and open source Mozilla Thunderbird.
3. Don't put your email address on a web page in a machine readable form
Like Email me at 8bit AT 8bitjoystick DOT com
That will hide it from most email spiders.
4. Never reply to a spammer
5. Turn of images and HTML in your email client so you will not send any information back to the spammer.
6. Read up on Spam and research more about the problem.
7. Use multiple email accounts. Have a safe and a discard email account. The safe email account is one that you share with friends and clients and the discard email is one that you will put on the web or in a online forum. Be careful where you show your email If you have to question it then you should give the discard account. But just make sure to check both regularly. Mozilla Thunderbird can handle multiple email accounts with ease.

hum, I will wait until they improved Firebird more. Currently I cannot change a skin easily and such. You could blame me for using M$ Outlook Express but.... good looking, clean GUI is always important for me and I don't get much SPAM by now. I was wondering Firebird can handle mail filter rules to cut off attachments before forwarding mails (for example to a cell phone).
