It looks like Marvel is going to start a new openly gay comic book hero to have their own book called The Rawhide Kid and I plan check the first Issue when it hits the stands in Febuary. Now I am a reader of the Marvel comic X-Statix (It is drawn my Mike Allred of Madman I love his work) that has not one but two out of the closet gay super heros The Phat and Vivasector. There have been some lesbians in some Image comic books but none of that dreaded guy on guy loving. It was a damn shame that the Xena show ended before she got a chance to declare her love for Gabrielle. You know they never explained why Robin was called "The Boy Wonder"
Oh Man.. Am I going to get weird search engine hits for this one.
Although shy with girls, the original Rawhide Kid was not intended to be gay. The new version uses double entendres and euphemisms to reveal his homosexuality without saying anything explicitly. Based on a blurb on Marvel's Web site, the tone may be campy.

That's pretty cool. All the comics I read are DC, they have one gay super hero/sometime vilian - Piper, but he's not a featured character, he's one of the rouges in Flash. I've read some Vertigo comics that had gay super heros, nothing that had an ongoing title though.. just a short series of comics then the story was over...
I will have to check this out in Feb (that is if I can talk Kent into buying a Marvel comic...)
Call me crazy but i think that if you want to have a gay comic or a comic that has straight sex in it that there should be a ratings system. Just like video games. That way you can shut down any mention of censorship. Right now comics with a sexually graphic nature are known as graphic novels(even though they dont have any sex in them sometimes). I used to love these when I was a kid but i had no supervision and they were mostly just cartoons of giant bowling ball breasted women with laser guns and stuff....plus a shit-ton of violence. You watch, people are gonna get all bent out of shape over this and it will never go anywhere but to get Marvel comics publicity. Rmember kids, there is no such thing as bad publicity. I mean really...when was the last time that Marvel comics was in the lime light? It was D.C. comics that put out the september 11th heroes comics so now it is Marvels turn for some "bad" publicity. Kind of cheap if you ask me although "Rawhide" is pretty damn funny. Does Robert Smigel have anything to do with this? Hmmmm.
When you think about it arent all superheroes just a little gay....really if you saw some guy walking around in leotards wouldnt you think there was something up with that? The Hulk isnt gay though....but bruce banner is. What about the Brown Hornet or Powdered Toast Man?
Well Kevin Smith implied that Black Cat also dated girls as well as having a thing for Spiderman in the Mini series that he wrote for Marvel. But then again Kevin Smith is a bit hooked on the sex lives of Super Heros. Just look at Mallrats, and Chasing Amy.
Marvel also had some September 11th issues but then again they ARE in New York City and the Marvel Comics offices were about a mile away from Ground Zero. I am not sure if this will be a publicity stunt or not. I read about this on CNN. that is owned by Time Warner... that Also owns... Marvel Comic group.. Surprise Surprise
It looks like this is going to be an non comic-code title so you can't get it at Wal Mart and the writers can do alot more without worring about Joe McCarthy and Lieberman.

yeah but Mccarthy is dead now. Besides....he did "out" a whole slew of commies even if he did like to dress in womens clothing and was a raging drunk. I guess if you throw a dragnet out in Hollyweird you are bound to find about 50 or so pinkoes.
It was Hoover of the FBI who was the cross dresser. Mc Carthy was just the commie hunting senator. Well Ronald Regan who was the head of the Screen actors guild promised to turn in Commie sympathizers to Mc Carthy show trials.
Damnit your right it was Hoover. A man that almost anyone could learn to hate. Not for wearing skirts though....that is just kind of funny.
