Happy Turn-Off TV Week 2005 - TV is a Drug

Today is the start of Turn Off TV Week. I am going to be celebrating by slightly media fasting. I am going to read a good book or two and not watch any recorded TV shows or normal TV.

I don't think that all of TV is essentially bad but one's media diet needs nutritional balance, diversity and moderation. I still plan on watching a movie on DVD or two and still read my favorite Internet sites but I don't sit my butt down and watch TV for several hours just to kill some time. I like how my DVD-recorder lets me watch TV when I want to, watch only the shows that I want and skip the commercials.

I am not advocating smashing your TV just be careful what you are putting in your head and try not to overdose. Go to the library and get a good book. TV is a mental drug. Think about it.

Yes, I've been waiting for this. I'm joining it!

I'm a stay at home dad. The TV makes noises all day long. This is how it must be.

you know.. I was thinking about joining this but then I wondered if it would count since I record most of my shows and then watch them later. Perhaps to really "be in", I'd have to miss my shows to see if I could live with that? Or else, it's just shifting my tv viewing time this week to sometimee next week. This reminds me, I need to get some type of DVR b/c it just sucks to program my vcr..

I usually just check the TV listing at http://tvlistings2.zap2it.com/ for when I program my DVD-Recorder that I am using as a VCR

There's nothing decent on anyway. And the stuff I want to watch I keep missing. :p
